So that's no. #005 then @syn? Smile

(Should we also mention sound chips used? Cool/proper info of course.. Smile)

@John: nice post! Some nice tunes, but I'm not completely thrilled by the soundtrack.. But I should really give it another listen before making a verdict Smile

Listening to The Scheme atm.. Not bad (at all)!

@JohnHassink: That's very interesting. It never occurred to me, even though this is one of my favorite soundtracks ever and those are some of the most well known Rocky themes. Thanks!

Fyi, Mega Drive VGMs are on Project2612, e.g. Alisia Dragoon VGM. Not supported by VGMPlay for MSX though (yet?)...

Grauw, I'm not sure but maybe @l_oliveira already did it? I remember he was experimenting with OPN chips. By the way, this is one of the few YM2612 soundtracks that don't use the DAC, could they be translated somehow to the YM2151?

Parn: Yeah but l_oliveira uses it with his own custom YM2612 sound module Smile.

But my plan is indeed to try and emulate OPN* series chips on the YM2151 OPM (just the "SSG EG" is missing). Also I’ve ordered a bunch of components, I’m going to try to build an OPNA cartridge myself with the help of l_oliveira.

Wow, the Sorcerian soundtack is truly excellent, some amazing tunes in there! Smile
(I guess I also used to skip it because the sheer length/size discouraged me or something... Wink)

There's also the PC-88 version over @ YT (not seen @ VGMRips). Seems to sound rather similar to the X-1 version (to my (untrained) ear). I guess there's a difference in recording though: the former sounds more crisp/clear, the latter somewhat muffled (in comparison).

I think it would be rather cool if Grauw could record the soundtrack (or some bits of it) with his MSX/VGMPlay setup.. ;-) Quite curious how it sounds! + Accompanied by nice visuals of his gear / setup would make of an awesome vid I reckon ;)

Already the two Pentawa songs in the beginning are excellent. Then some tunes I wrote down, but for sure I missed some other excellent ones (in order of appearance):

@Grauw: we only seem to have 1 song in common in our lists... ;) (That must say something about the sheer amount of good tunes in the soundtrack I reckon.. ;))

edit- Ending II also sounds familiar somehow..? (Used in another game as well perhaps?) (Or ABBA perhaps? :P  ;))

@ ren: I'm glad that I 'contaminated' someone else with the Sorcerian soundtrack. Smile
The X-1turbo version of the soundtrack has more instrumental parts than the PC-88 version. Compare for instance the extra flute in the opening theme.

There's something with "Tower of Thieves - The Seal", as it sounds a lot like "Bloody River" in the "Lucifer's Floodgates" quest. The latter one is not present in the video of the X-1 version, so here it is on PC-88:

Maybe there is a story-technical reason for the similarity, but I don't know since I haven't played the game. Possibly this is why the "Tower of Thieves" rendition lacks from the VGM pack?

About the "Romancia Castle" music, don't you just recognize it from Romancia? :)

Yeah, thanks John.. Wink

I never played Romancia, nor Sorcerian.. But I guess the (typical) organ/church sound makes it feel/sound familiar? But the melody.. hmm.. Smile (Feels a bit 'daar komt de bruid' as well.. Wink)

I edited my post here & there (title fix, link to better PC-88 version vid, link to Sorcerian: Utillity Vol.1 VGMRips pack and link to 'special' 'The Seal' version.. Wink)

edit- do you have any (firm) favorites btw? (Never mind though if that's like 10+.. Wink)

Do you mean, like, favorite software developers concerning game music?

@J I mean favourite songs from the soundtrack.. Wink
(Of course the other thing is interesting as well, but that's another matter.. Wink)

Oh, I see. Smile Well, more or less the ones you and Grauw already mentioned, and some others like
The King's Stolen Scepter - Dungeon
Thieves Tower - Major Demon
The Mystery of the Ruby - Forest
The Dark Mage - Dungeon I
Medusa's Neck - Forest
...too many to mention. As said, I adore this soundtrack. I also particularly enjoy the Romancia tunes, because I love the original game.

EDIT

By the way, as soon as the songs are etched in your brain, it's worth checking out the Sorcerian Perfect Collections. Some awesome rearrangements there. Some of them even have vocals and/or are played on 'real' musical instruments.
