@John Do you have something to back those Rocky statements up, or it it your (and others) interpretation? (Which is of course most times the case, as long the composer hasn't made any clear statement about it.. Wink)

Nothing but my ears. Wink Nice that you came to appreciate this soundtrack! The game itself is very good too and recommended.

#007| Nemesis 3 / Gofer no Yabou Ep. II - Dance of Middle Easterners

Konami, MSX, 1988
Original soundtrack composed by: who knows for sure?

Not feeling in the mood to 'review' a/the whole soundtrack, I do one track from it, perhaps a less obvious one: Dance of Middle Easterners (Stage 5 BGM).

Main reason because I wanted to share the sax cover by subversiveasset, which is pretty cool I think (but could have been a bit longer though.. :)) It was done for the Pixel Mixers Cover Contest #2: MSX Games last year.

Nice one, ren. I love Nemesis III and its soundtrack. Sax cover is funny. Smile Do you know about the drums fix?

edit- I guess you're meaning this: https://www.msx.org/forum/msx-talk/emulation/enhanced-nemesi...
Seems I did see it & downloaded it back then, but never had a further look at it... (I should do this you say? ;))

Nice one John, seem to have missed that one..!
Did you manage to fix it yourself eventually? Seems, from the discussion, a lot of Konami's are effected.. (where are the patches already?? Wink)

@ ren: I still have no idea how to do that... Crying Patches would be very nice.

#008| Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (Soriddo sunēku!) - Theme of Solid Snake

Konami, 1990, MSX2

Composed by: Konami Kukeiha Club

Who doesn't like/love the Solid Snake soundtrack? I always very much enjoyed the 2 parted intro with it's fabulous songs. No wonder why they're remixed/covered a lot (Zanzibar Breeze in a lesser extend).

I generally do not really care for most of the(se) covers/remixes, and just keep preferring the original(s). IMO most of them are trying too hard (e.g. too much chorus, circus, bells & whistles), or are too smooth/licked, or they simply don't add anything to the original. I guess it's hard to improve on something that's already excellent Wink

As the previous post, I mainly want to share a particular version, and that's the DonutDrums Drum/Bass/Keyboard Cover, which was also an entry for aforementioned Pixel Mixers Contest.

For me, this cover makes an exception. Just straight up no extra fluff, bells & whistles. Live drumming, keys & bass guitar = +++ The (added/improvised) drums @50s are pretty cool if I may say so.. :)
AFAIC he could have gone on for a little longer though instead of bringing it down @2m50s.. But that's faithful to the original however :)

Of course Theme of Solid Snake is also featured in the excellent TriloTracker Solid Snake Medley by Gryzor87.

I also did a quick look for Zanzibar Breeze covers: bonus!
That's from Metal Gear / Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake Music Collection (YT) (and in turn from Konami All Stars ~The Senryo-Bako Heisei 4 Nen Ban~ (~The 1000-Ryo Chest Heisei 4th Year Edition~))

But (while I'm at it), let me give also some credit to J-War's cover :)

Funny thing actually. I was looking for the best OST version over @ YT, and hesitated between:

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake OST (as linked to in my post) and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake 1990 Full OST

I had the idea that the latter sounded perhaps just a little better, but that might just as well be bs.
It does seem to have some track order mixed up.. (at least Freq. 140.85 & Level3 Warning) + he seemed to have added some index points / labels..

But there seems something about Spiral & Escape... It could well be these are mislabeled on the original OST CD (VGMdb).. Note the track lengths, which seem to match those in the YT playlist version. BUT the track belonging to the escape part in the game = 31 - Spiral & vice versa.. (other dude seems to have 'corrected' that by swiching the tracks around?)

But, well, yeah, YT.. Better to find a proper version instead.. :)
