Hello,

Just out of curiosity: Wich were the first commercially released MSX games?

I assume probably the low-production number games from ASCII? I´ve seen that there are some (C) 1982 games on GenMSX but I guess those are ports of previously released games (and so with older copyright).

If it was indeed low-numberer ASCII games then we´re probably talking about the following games, the 5 lowest-numbered:

- Pass Ball: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/ascii-corporation/pass...
- The Brain: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/ascii-corporation/the-...
- Star Command: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/ascii-corporation/star...
- Golf Game: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/ascii-corporation/golf...
- Mole: http://www.generation-msx.nl/software/ascii-corporation/mole...

They indeed look really crude.

What do you say? :)

Good question! Was there a system seller? I guess not. Probably ASCII did support the first software, like you mentioned. When did Konami joined the party?

I think Konami also joined early. Games like Super Cobra and Time Pilot are also early. But I don't know when they were put on the market. Perhaps take a look at the first MSX Magazine? Issue 0 contains concrete screenshots of this ASCII software:
- Breakout
- MOLE
- Star Command
- Moon Landing
- Golf Game
- The Brain
- Pass Ball
- MSX-21

So I guess this is the first game software for MSX Smile

Cartridges was what make the system easy to handle. But tapes are cheap ´n´quick to produce. Some of the early games was sold on both, cart and tape. And even disk, I have a Sony Loadrunner disk here, but they were surely not in the start line-up.
