I would love to play Konami games in Japanese on my openMSX emulator. What I was not able to find out is, are these games available in Japanese at all or are they mostly in English?

I was hoping to get a Japanese version of Penguin Adventure running with "openmsx -machine Sony_HB-F1XDJ" and JP ROM of the game but the only Kanji and Kana that I'm seeing is on the title screen (夢大陸アドベンチャー). Other than that, it's "Push space key" and then everything is in English.

Then that is all the Japanese this game will give you. I don't know by heart which other texts are in Japanese, but I've seen with other games that not all texts are in Japanese. The more complex texts will be, though. I guess the text in the shops will also be in Japanese.

In any case, you did the right thing: you ran the game on a Japanese MSX and that is the normal way to do it.

Thanks for the quick help!

What a pitty though; even the texts in the shops are English, it's all English except for the title screen.

Do you happen to know if there are any Komani games that are completely Japanese?

Why do you ask?

But try Shalom, that's not in English. And the Maze of Galious is mostly in Japanese on a Japanese MSX. Treasure of Usas too.

I've just tried Maze of Galious (which I love) but it seems to be in English. Usas on the other hand, indeed, it's Japanese. And Shalom, I didn't even know that there was a Knightmare III - I'll have to look into that Smile

I'm just asking because I was under the impression that all the Konami games are completely available in Japanese and I just wanted to practice the language a little. But anyhow, thanks a lot for your help!

Maze of Galious may not be entirely in Japanese, but it definitely has Japanese texts in them in the shrines. Try Demeter's shrine for instance.

On a side note: I did translate the texts for Penguin and Vampire Killer so a fully dual language version could be possible, but whether it would ever see the lights of day (is there even a need for it?)...

Well, since it's my favorite game of all times I would absolutely love to see it!
