It must have been a sign that I got my first MSX2 system on the 35th birthday of the platform Big smile I hope to get a lot of enjoyment from these computers. Congratulations to everyone who stuck with the system for so long, coming from a newcomer to the scene Smile

We may be getting old, but a mature system gets a lot of nice add-on lately.
There for MSX is still as young as we all want it to be.
The great hardware that didn' t exist in the day that has been made possible by a lot of people, makes it lots of fun
these days. Happy MSXing and happy birthday to you.

Of course this thing we can't be certain but it is hard to believe that people care about todays computer the same way 35 years from now...

Agree with that. I do not remember the brand or name of my former desktop PC, and I'm not even so sure about the one I have now!

My cell phone is a Samsung-something (crappy stuff getting slower and slower with age), my laptop a MacBook of some kind that I use mainly on Windows or Linux. I doubt these devices will be "collectibles" one day, but who knows. Anyway, how would you install games again on an iPhone or Android when the AppStore(s) will be down or games not supported anymore ? Our MSX cartrgidges, disks and tapes are still working and loading (well, if you're a bit lucky about the latter ones).

And it even seems like gaming consoles will disappear in the next decade, everything going to video-streamed games according to experts...

Nothing left to collect, repair, clean and cherish, except of course our MSX machines Running Naked in a Field of Flowers !

I grew up with the metric system but I know exactly how big 3 1/2 inch are. That explains a lot...

Not only that, today's consoles will not be working in 35 years time. I have a launch day PS3 that I dare not use due to fear of YLOD. My Toshiba HX10 is 33 years old, Turbo-R ST is 25 years old, they are both still going strong and get regular use to this day!

Your MSX is easier to maintain and repair too! Smile

PC's hold no nostalgia value since they are just a generic just a box of parts....

I agree that individual PC models tend to not be very nostalgic (generic boxes with generic parts) but I'm still very nostalgic for PC's personally, but it's more about the general experience of using one (turning it on, hearing that POST beep, the harddisk spin up and then that typical floppydrive noise... good stuff Tongue )
