Hey guys.

Do any MSX1 computers also have batteries that might need to be removed?

Thanks!.

I wouldn't count on it. MSX1 doesn't have an RTC.

Cool, thanks, just removed the batteries from 10 of my MSX2 systems.
Luckily only 2 of them had started leaking (Philips NMS-8245 and National FS4500).

That's very wise. Surprisingly the battery in one of your 8245's was still working as it was in width 80...

Hehe, yes, I wondered about that too, but I don't remember if I made the picture before or after I removed the battery Wink
And I already put the computers back in storage.

Well, working or not, it still has quite a high chance to start leaking. So better to remove anyway Smile

Last month I removed the one in my NMS8245 as well Smile.

I added a small connector in my Sony F700P so I could use a standard 3V PLC battery.
Easy to replace if it's empty again, although I don't think that will happen any time soon...

Right.

You should try a supercapacity (5.5V, 1F or more) and a resistor in serial.

I heard that the ML2032 batteries can be a satisfactory replacement for the NiCAD 3.6V batteries. Note that ML2032 is the rechargeable version of the CR2032.

They won't keep the RTC for longer periods as the original, but hold for long enough for the type of use the MSX see nowadays.

The major advantage is that xx2032 button batteries are solid and don't leak.
