How are you sure that the belt ain't worn out?
It doesn't snap if you pull it (along its natural route)?
It doesn't keep the bend of the pully if you pull it (along its natural route)?
Is the belt still tight enough to rotate the pullies?
Those drives are not top notch and neither is a belt system. It's not without reason there are many people with replacement drives built in ot be rid of the belt system.
I put a brand new belt in and it still won’t read the disks. It’s also still making a grinding noise and I can’t figure out what’s causing that. Please help.
Can be a mechanical defect or maybe that the heads are touching the disk. Can you pinpoint where the grinding noise is coming from?
It sounds like it’s in one of two places: either the plastic piece that holds the black disk in place which the belt helps spin, or the sound is possibly coming from the threaded rod that helps the reader move back and forth.
It could be a worn out spring, these are really hard to find, because you don't have the specifications of the spring exactly, so a similar looking spring could either pull too hard or too soft.
Wasn't there a way to built in a PC Disk-drive like in a Turbo R? Then you wouldn't have this problem ever again. Sometimes you can find them on Ebay, but there might be some extra modification necessary.
