[WTS] VG-8235/NMS-8245 FDD adapter boards

Hello all,

For a project I designed and produced a little adapter PCB to fit a pc style floppy drive to the 8235/8245 in a plug & play way. Put in the drive, plug in the adapter and original drive cable in the adapter, power connector to drive and you're ready!

The 8235 does require the cutting of two traces and fitting two wires on the bottom of the main board to enable double sided drives to work (and you'll need to install a double sided diskrom).

Fitted in a VG-8235/00 it looks like this:

The surplus boards are for sale:

One PCB: 3€
One DIY kit: PCB + angled 34 pin connector + 14 pin strip: 6€
One PCB with connectors soldered: 10€

These prices do not include shipping.

Note: the position of the 34 pin connector varies from drive to drive. Some even have the connector upside down. Make sure you choose a drive that has it in such a position that it fits with the adapter included. For most drives this shouldn't be a problem though.

I wonder if those will fit the Sony F700P. It also has a similar FDD cable with a weird pinout.

Hmm, I just checked the F700P service manual, and the board appears to have a 34 pin, standard pinout, connector..

And here's the reality:

The floppy wire is single row, consists of 2 separate parts that meet at the special board with the standard floppy connector. Took me a few hours to figure out how to make an adapter on the breadboard...

Strange, I have never seen inside of F700p before.. Did you try to put a normal 34 pin cable to the mainboard?
