Nice project!

Could you make too an adapter to cartridge slot in which the cartridge sticking out to 1/3 only? That way we could put a disk interface or something else. By cons CX5MII, YIS-503F and YIS-503II would not support the cartridges "Xin1" nor slot expander but it would still be an advantage.

Hmm, I am not sure what you mean... Do you want to have an adapter from the 60-pin side slot into the normal 50-pin cartridge slot as a side slot module? Please explain in detail.

Something like that:

That is easily doable. I will work on this project in February.

UPDATE: Not so easily doable as I first thought. The MSX cartridge is quite wide, so it doesn't get past the front cover's screw holders and inserting it into the module by 2/3 is impossible without redesigning the holders. Redesigning the cover holders without compromising the case's ability to get securely closed is problematic. So the cartridge will be sticking out by 2/3. I will make the prototype...

If this could be done, it would look like that:

But this will require 2 boards because the existing 50 pin slots with the angled pins can't be mounted on the main board inside the enclosure - the pins are way too short. The slot with 50 straight pins can be mounted on a separate board and then this board needs to be somehow connected to the main board. So 48 wires? Sounds bad...

Interesting project.

The gotek inside its own enclosure is actually quite small and it may be possible to further reduce the design of your case by removing the gotek board from its enclosure.

There is also an easy mod for the gotek that adds a small buzzer to make it squeal a bit when accessing, sounds almost like a real floppy drive. I'll try to dig out some notes on that later (currently in work) and will post back.

Oh and since I'm new to MSX is there any chance of this working with my MSX1 Toshiba HX-10?

The cartridge exceeds too much. Maybe it's possible to replace these both screw holders by clips?
As for the slot connector, I have no idea. Maybe there is no alternative than do another case specific.

This is for the side slot module connector that’s only present on Yamaha MSX computers (except for the SX-100) and the models they licensed to other manufacturers. List of systems which have it here.

Actually I first tested this module with the 50-to-60 pin slot converter cable. See this picture:

So this module is technically usable with any MSX as long as you have the converter. But for MSX1 you will need to have a RAM expansion in order to boot to MSX-DOS. I tested it on my Yamaha CX5M.

The idea of taking the Gotek's guts out of its case and embedding them into the enclosure is not bad. And it's not so difficult to do - you will need to re-mount the display (or use the OLED upgrade), USB port and 2 buttons onto the detachable front cover. The project is open-source, so feel free to modify whatever you want.

Ok, here's the version with the deeper cartridge location:
