Interesting project to MSX-Music.

I don't know much, but I think that you need a computer to pass the sequence of music and then you can model the sound with this device. Am I right?

I love the Illusion City intro of the first minutes.

Thanks for highlighting this initiative.

It’s got a sequencer built-in so you don’t need a computer, you can program the sequence from the device.

Not sure actually how much it can be used as a standalone MIDI synth (so bypassing the sequencer), the description does list MIDI IN/OUT however it doesn’t say what that’s used for and how much is exposed, could just be IN for tempo and OUT for the sequencer notes, or the IN has full access to the synth through CCs and SysEx.

I'd add a PSG to provide an 'ish' for the FM-snare/tom.

Sounds better than mine Running Naked in a Field of Flowers :

I suck at doing rythms.. :P And.. only one FM chip.

Well, the FM Drumbox should be on my oldwebsite. You can go there from the new one.
It uses Music Module, tho, and even that doesn't sound as good as the MSX Tribute!
I think it was almost fully functional for playing, editing. Not sure about saving patterns/instruments. I also think it can control 4 MIDI instruments too. Not sure if it will work without an external MIDI Clock or this was the version that also used internal clock xD Can't remember well.

At the end the MSX Tribute is more handy as you don't need a TV to control it Smile Keep the MSX to play nice games Smile

EDIT: Oh, I realized the video was the OTHER FM thing. The one with 6 pure FM channels (also Music Module). The one on my web is the hybrid (FM+MIDI). If the FM only is not in the pack it's probably cause I was modularizing everything and it's not upgraded. By then, I got tired of it, nobody cared, and used my time to release some game insted Smile But if you're instered (for messing a bit with it and laugh) I can upload it too. Still WON'T sound as good as the MSX Tribute Sad

Ah, okay, your video’s description said MSX Music so I thought maybe it was an unreleased thing Smile.

Ah, must be OPLL only then. Can't remember, I have many versions of these toys xDDD
Probably I released the hybrid one cause it was better?

Interesting project indeed. However, I think it's kinda pricey for a kit.

Hello, so i'm the one who created the MSX Tribute !

I'll try to answer what have been talked about so far, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask !

Quote:

So, it has already been answered, but you can play it on it's own, the sequencer is included inside. If you advance a bit the kickstarter video, you can see me editing notes to change the melody.

The MIDI IN/OUT is currently active for timing purpose, i have started to implement recording notes on the go, but i still have a bug with this feature and decided not to show it at the moment.
I have also another software that can be implemented to use it as a standard polysynth. I was thinking of trying to add them both in the device with a way to choose between them.
CCs and/or SysEx ar on my development roadmap.

After trying to add many things (a delay, a vcf, some other sound sources,...) i ended with keeping the original sound, may it sound sometimes glitchy, sometimes not real (in his attempt to copy instruments) but it's the original sound.

Well, i don't know if this is part of what made the kickstarter campaign a fail or not.
What kind of price would you expect for such a kit ?
As the campaign failed, i'm trying to gather the more remarks / ideas / informations i can to improve and release it anotherway.
