Hello,
I have a philips 8250. I can run msx-dos1.
I want to run msx-dos2. I have been trying for hours but am giving up.
With disk-manager I make a new floppy. I select msx-dos 2.2 boot sector.
I copy msxdos2.sys and command2.sys on the floppy. It does not boot well. It boots up instead in msx-basic.
I also have a memory mapper 1024 KB cartridge.
Is it even possible to boot msx-dos2 on a msx8250? I do not have the msx-dos2 cartridge. Supposedly the cartridge has a ROM file. I have seen some ROM files on the internet with names like MDOS22V1.ROM, MDOS22V2.ROM, MDOS22V3.ROM.
Do I need to put these on the floppy as well? Or is it really not possible to run msx-dos2 with my setup?
Thanks.

It is not possible with this setup. You need a dos2 cartridge or other solution (megaflashrom , carnivore2 etc) to run dos2.

What most people don't realize is that MSX-DOS1 also requires a ROM (possibly in a cartridge). It's just that it's already included in MSX with a diskrive.

I even use MSXDOS2 on an NMS8220 (no disk drive just an MFR)

Msx-Dos 2 is a two parts software
- Floppy MSX-Dos 2
- Rom MSX-Dos 2

Also, it requires 128K of Ram minimum

Hello Vampier, what is an MFR? Mega flash rom?

The MFR or MFRSDSCC+512 is a Megaflashrom built and disributed by Manuel Pazos (https://www.msxcartridgeshop.com).
A very well designed product, but:
Of course there are now other SD solutions. If we start a discussion here, the first to respond are users who recommend Carnivore2, some high-level freaks who squeeze every drop out of the Gr8Net, and happy Spanish users who gave their right hand for a jackflash (and now claim to be able to do everything better and easier with their left).
In exact that order.
In any case, we recommend that you purchase one of these modules, a small overview can be found here.
We have had a sheet that did some better overview, anyone can insert this here? Pencioner?
Note: We have to do a wiki about comparison of the SD cartridges.

Yes I have heard of these wonderful cartridges. But I have not bought it yet for 2 reasons. First I want to play games on my real msx in the most pure way. That is why I have the real msx and not use an emulator. I have gotten the thought in my head that these cartridges are such a cheat that it is not a pure experience anymore. Perhaps I am just crazy. Also I have never seen any of these cartridges second hand on the market. I am also a cheap bastard:-) I like the idea of buying second hand.
