it has been asked before i know

searching the forum hasnt provided me with a good answer though

i have built a cable on these specifications

http://www.msxarchive.nl/pub/msx/mirrors/hanso/hwmodsetc/tech-nms8245fdd.pdf

i have measured the cable for the right connections
and all are good connected

the floppy does "all" its supposed to do except "spin"
so LEDs go on at startup and on "files"

on startup the drive spine just for a second and then it stops

spool L2 is replaced with wire

i made 3 cables and all have the same "problem"
i tried 4 pc drives two of which came from a working 8255
and i also tried it in another 8245

who knows whats wrong???

Does you drive use 12V and if so, did you hook it up correctly? Did you set the drive to DS0? Does the drive have a disk-ready sensor? If it's an older drive, does it maybe require more current than the 8245 supplies?

i dont know what you mean with "disk ready sensor" none of the articles i read talked about that

"Disk ready sensor" means, more or less, that you must shortcut to ground the drive pin 34 (usually pins 34 & 33 must be joined). Also you can get the DS0 setting swapping pins 10 & 12 (and I'm always talking from the ribbon perspective); this last mod is not necessary if you can work with a B: unit instead the most common A:
Apart from that there're no other problems, recently I've been trying some new drives for my adapted 8245 and all work fine. Can you post the wiring of your cable?

That's the same guide I'd follow to make my mod!. Here're some photos of my adapter:

General view

Adapter close-up

Using an old PC motherboard floppy connector I was able to keep the original cable...

The only modifications I can remember are the already mentioned, 10 & 12 swapping and the 34 & 33 shortcut (try this). If it still refuses to work, maybe the +5V line of your machine is not giving enough power, try to power the drive using an external psu with 5VDC and at least 1Amp.

that wasnt it either

i have several jumpers on the pc drive
RY -> ready i presume
DC -> Disk change i presume
DS 0 through 3
M1 M2 -> dunno what that is
IFHD-> dunno what that is either

which should be the right jumpers???

I dont know if it can help.
is pin2 of the pc diskdrive connected to 5v?
pin2 should be (density select 720k / 1.44 Mb)
this is the configuration in my NMS8245
i changed the original drive after it burned with a pc drive years ago
i recently tried another disk drive and it works too.
i didnt open the drive and didnt make any modification like soldering /disoldering to configure it as ds0.
and it has been working for years
My drive work as drive A ( I swapped pin 6 and pin 7)
msx connector / diskdrive connector

1 index 8
2 dirc 18
3 step 20
4 w data 22
5 w gate 24
6 ds0 12
7 ds1 10
8 side select 32
9 nc 4
10 motor on 16
11 gnd
12 tr00 26
13 wp 28
14 rdata 30
