Just tested on my SX2 :
- It works well too with Sofarun/sofarom (but select ASCII16 manually in rom settings)
- and mglunch/mglocm if you select ASCII16 in menu selection (press F to force ASCII16 mapper)
How are dip switches 4-7 set and do you force the mapper type in game settings? Also, have you updated the firmware since you got it. I've never updated the firmware as it says you can brick it and it works fine except for a few games. It seems game starting around 256K have issues. Stuck on green screen, green then black screen and stuck or clicks and goes back to DOS prompt. Ghostly Manor Works, which is 256K, but Alien Attack mostly returns to DOS prompt, but some rom type settings give green screen.

Also, I got Alien Attack to work by turning off dip switches 4-7. So, somehow the memory extensions were interfering with the game starting. Playing with the dip switches did not seem to help for Diced or Lilly's Saga.
Always use last version ! (actually 3.9.1)
For me :
DIP 4 = OFF
DIP 5/6 = OFF / OFF
DIP 7 = OFF
I'm not able to play DICED with this configuration for now... (even with Konami mapper forced)
As @Sebbeug says, you need to set manually the ROM type. Neither Sofarun not MGLOCM are able to automatically detect the right ROM type in this game.
It should work, I've loaded it with both of them.

You said you have Ascii16 ROM type forced for Lilly's Saga. Do you have any type of Mapper forced, like ESE SCC or MegaROM? Anything for the FM-PAC MSX-Music? I'm still getting green screen (I am also ignoring last flashed rom and tried three different copies of the ROM. Could be my particular SX-2 just doesn't like the ROM. It plays in OpenMSX.
ASCII 16 is the mapper type....
Using sofarun you can force it to mapper ascii 16 and it should work, but the clod stages will not work properly unless you've update it with ocm 3.9.1 repack (note the repack, plain 3.9.1 won't do)
How do I know if I have a dual epbios sx2 or a single epbios sx2?

All SX2 are compatible with single or dual epbios.
Single or dual epbios is relevant only if you do not use sdbios.
Single epbios has only DOS2 Kernel
Dual epbios has both DOS2 and Nextor Kernels, DOS2 is chosen when memory size is set to 2048MB, Nextor when memory size is, 4096.
But, again, if you created a sd card with an ocmbios.dat file it will override that and use whatever option you've chosen for your sdbios, as all bios files, including disk kernel, will be loaded from sdcard and sdbios aren't dual, you choose either MSXDOS2 or Nextor Kernel

Someone mentioned it was safer to just leave the bios off the SD card and just have MSDOS2 on the SD card with the PLD and flasher and set it to 2048MB. Is that pretty foolproof either way? I'm pretty sure I don't have Nextor on there but I have to check and not home now.
Latest versions of smxflash work fine with nextor or msx dos, use the one sent with 3.9.1 repack and you should be good no matter what you use
