Do they exist?

I've owned an MSX1, MSX2 since they were released and still have a real 8245 stuffed at my attic Wink Nowadays I just play on emulators. For the sake of nostalgia and reliving memories of the past I just love to fire up Konami classics to play for a while.

But, here's the question as stated above. I found this website and soon realized MSX is still alive and kickin' in the hearts of a big fan base so it seems. So I was wondering.. are there any projects in existence, games most notably that could match the qualities of Konami games like MGS, SD-Snatcher, the Nemesis series?

Games that would use the SCC, stuffed with great soundtracks (who didn't love Konami's) backened by a fun concept or cool story and nice graphics to go. I'm really interested to see if something's out there Smile

Hello,

There is a PC homebrew game called La Mulana. Is just awesome. Seems a real MSX game but written for PC. Konami quality, including the manual.

Sowwy! I googled my way to it and it's running already. Impressive! Great job on the soundtrack, only heard the intro so far. About to check out the game itself now Wink

Uh?, the obvious answer is : take a look at the MSXdev site and browse the "Previous contests" section... ;)

I wonder what games the msx would have had konami continued to support msx after 1990.Quarth unfortunately was the last game, but i am pretty sure there was still lots of things to do in the msx.And the dream question to all is what kind of machines did they use to cross compile the z80 code for msx, what tools to design graphics, etc.

I know no one is ever going to answer this.

As for what kind of games Konami could/would've done after Quarth.. well, when Konami left there were plenty new games coming out from Micro Cabin, Compile, Falcom. As companies typically look at each other's output it's safe to assume that Konami would've gone along with the genres of the 90's. Perhaps they'd have made an RPG like Xak or a vertical shooter like Aleste..

One obvious thing : Konami continued to make games after leaving the MSX, so in order to know what they had in mind, one only needs to look at what they produced on other platforms (PCE, PS, ...) in the '90s.

I always loved Microcabin games as well. Well not all of them though. Xak being my alltime favourite. Their way of sound was quite distinct, mixing PSG/FM much like Konami did with PSG/SSC. Supurb soundtracks as well. Just a shame that at that time all those games were in Japanese. Recently I've enjoyed replaying many of those games translated into english. Fun to actually understand what the game was about after like.. almost 20 years? lol
