yeah ..e.g. no fun !
and they'll problably cancel it..
so hope there r more people..
???
The problem is that their wanted the game to be *FREEWARE* (but now, their release easier rules. It is possible to sell cartridges after the contest.)
Last year, I wanted to do a participation into this contest ... If there are less than two entries, maybe I could make a participation too.

I know that there are a lot of competitions that ends without foes ... In some cases the winner is the only entry! Like in the case of shooters and small games ...
Well, it was a fact that a lot of competitions for MSX were pround of a premature end!

Only reason I can think of is that this competition is based on a demand from gamers who want MSX2 games. But probably MSX1 is more appealing/fun for most of the active developers.
Not sure if the above is true but at least it is how I personally feel about it.
Anyway. I hope there will be some last minute surprises.

why? msx2 has screen 4 which is basically screen 2 but ...more sprites visible...custom palette ....screen splits...smooth scrolling....
Why? Personally it has to do with the reason that screen2 lacks those features of screen 4. And a lot of nostalgia....... <thinking back on those days when I was really impressed by Konami games
>
I just get more satisfaction out of making screen2 gfx with a fixed color palette and color-clash than making screen5 gfx. In the past I only used to work in screen5 link and screen7 link. But it just doesnt tickle my senses anymore.
I agree with RyJuZo, even if I feel that msx2 is a badly balanced machine.
In bitmap modes the z80 and the vdp are too slow for getting really good effects
(too small also the VRAM for storing animations, as the RAM I/O stays a bottleneck).
Moreover some important feature area missing or are badly designed (horizontal scroll, multilayer display, crappy coloring for sprites - depending on the SAT and not on the patterns).
I do not say that these mode are unusefull, I say only that maybe the VDP and the msx2 suffers of approximate HW design.
Getting Total parody work was a real pain...sorry to have dropped that project.
Said that, msx2 can be used as a super msx1 in screen 4 getting awesome results: that mode is the sole really in the league of the z80. What i regret is that in character mode you cannot use the VDP to move bytes (unless of terrible trics, Space manbow rules).
Anyway, for the sake of contraddiction, our next plan (more mine than Huey's one) is to have a screen2/screen 5 game in a single rom :-)

More sprites visible? Actually 32 sprites visible, like on MSX1.
Custom palette can be used in SC2 too...
You can do smooth scrolling on SC2 too (and without using MSX2 vertical scroll register).
So SC4 is the same as SC2, except you can use Sprites enhanced mode. If you don't need to use this mode, you can use SC2 and become MSX1 compatible.
well, SapphiRe
in screen 4 you can swap among 8 tilesets by just changing a register....
do not tell me you do not need that CPU cycles
Even horizontal fine scrolling could be done in this way (if you succed in avoiding the damn color clash...)
[edit]
nostalgia rules
msx1 and msx2 and TR are all dead and totally outdated....
it has no meaning to try to compete with modern games
I find amusing programming msx1 and msx2 as they remind me to ancient times when i was young
someone, who probaly passed to PCs before/instead of having an msx2, likes only msx1 for the very same reason,
so
