I came about this link. It is a sale of 2 konami MSX games on tape.
I've been collecting MSX games for more than 3 years now, but this is the first time I ever see something like that.

Are they for real, or are they copied roms, and the guy who sells them made the copies ?

Thank you for your replies.
Kris.

Well, they have an original sleeve (looks cool, btw), so I guess these are quite original (otherwise someone has been quite busy making them look real). Check google if there's the complete Konami MSX game list.

I know the konami list (Sean Young version), but I never read of heard anything about tape versions of konami games...

The only thing that's giving me doubts is the fact that I know that tape games were very popular in the UK, and much more common there than cartridge games.

But this is really the only doubt I have. I the 3 years I've been collecting I NEVER heard of konami tape games...

True, I just googled myself and I can't find anything about it. Strange indeed... They look too good to be fake though.

Hmmz, making a cover using modern image processing and a good printer isn't that hard.
What I would be intersted in, is seeing the inside of those boxes and the manuals.

I will contact the seller for more pictures.

They're probably genuine. In the UK, Konami also released Green Beret on disk!

Yes, but an FDD game is not a tape game Smile
And it is well-known that Green Beret exists on disk.

On top of that, the people who are making the konami MSX games lists never even mention tape games. They've been looking for info on the subject much longer than the 3 years that I've been collecting. If the tape games really existed they should have known by now...

Anyway, I contacted the seller, still awaiting his reply.

But I have a strong feeling that these tape versios of the games are 'homemade' Smile
The application to create sound files of rom-files is available on the web.
Just need to scan the covers and manipulate a bit using Photoshop, and there you are Smile

I will let y'all know when I receive response from the seller.

Looks fake to me, if I look well the Hyper Sports 3 cover contains the Cartridge icon at the bottom.. hard to see but I think it shows a cart...
Also the picture seems distorted to me... a K7 is not proportional in size compared to the real cartridge box, right?
So, I give it a 99% fake.

Hmz...
I don't know how it is where you live, but when a Green Beret on disk showed up here about a year ago, everybody was incredibly surprised. If anything, 'well-known' is an overstatement.

I received response from the seller.

He states that the tapes themselves have the Konami brand name printed on them.
He will send me photographs to confirm Smile
(I think I will never see those pics, but let's give him the benefit of the doubt)

I'm not talking about back then, but about now.
Every new MSX (konami) collector learns the existence of the different types of released konami games, no ? I mean, I found my way to the MSX konami games list very quickly... I definitely don't argue about the impact of a konami disk games all those years ago Smile

I didn't say 'all those years ago', I said last year. It was never released outside of the UK and really has remained unknown for all that time.
I really wouldn't be surprised if Konami UK released those games on tape! Konami UK was an important part of Konami back then, with the Konami fanclub and so on.. They even created Green Beret.

Previously unknown MSX items are being discovered on a regular basis you know... No list of MSX software or hardware is complete.
