Hi all,

I need 'schematics' to solder a 3.5mm jacket to 5-pin DIN (was it DIN) to connect MP3-player or equivalent to my Toshiba HX-10. So far I've only written short basic stuff (really short) but now's the time to make something "bigger" and I need a way to load and save programs.

Thanks for advance !

You can find the pinout of the MSX cassette connector in this page: The Ultimate MSX FAQ - Connector Section.

DIN 8 pins (female at the computer)

   7 6 1 GND 5 CMTIN I
  3 8 1 2 GND 6 REM + O
   5 4 3 GND 7 REM - O
     2 4 CMTOUT O 8 GND

You only need to tie to the mono jack to pins 5 (SOUND INPUT) and 1 (or any other GND).
Of course being an MP3 player you'll only be able to play; to record you'll need another kind of device (not sure about the existence of MP3 recording devices...)

Thanks, exactly what I needed, and thanks of the link too !

I assume I'm able to use 5-pin socket as long I join audio to CMTIN and ground to GND, for instance like in Gradiente MSX in the Ultimate FAQ (I only found 5 pin DIN socket from my old stuff box Smile.

You can get a 5-pin DIN to 4 x RCA (both male and female are available) adapters at electronics stores (the 5-pin DIN plug was used in the 70's and 80's audio equipment - amplifiers, tape recorders etc...). On one of the RCAs you'll get CMTin and CMTout readily available, if connected to an MSX. Then youl'll need the stereo jack - RCA lead. No need for soldering ;-)
