And it seems he's still interrested in MSX as well... Maybe we can persuade him in getting out of hybernation and continue development on the several projects he's involved with... Maybe we can still have an X-Tazy release then.
How can you be so sure about that? I mean, after all he did visit Tilburg 2004 this year. I don't know what kind of promises he made (and broke), but in the late 90s there were many developers making and breaking promises just because they temporarily lost interest in MSX. Many of those developers are now back in action, Mi-Chi might become one of them.
Not only he kept not he promises, but he is different from anyone else.
He programs always in c and doesnot compromise in that , not open for assembly etc. That makes it first hard that he accepts some who should help.
So, for me that is a closed subject.
yeah, but who opened that subject eh. ah well. It's good to see sunrise noticed a little legend here. (good thing ppl never took any photo graphs me hehe)
Yes Ro I started it, with the reason to see if there were others who recognized him. Apparently no one execpt me cause everyone talks about x-tazy and not the initiator. Manuel and others it would be nice if it could be opened again.
But not only the programlanguage is it. Remember the time it started.
You had to buy your own developmentkit. Furthermore the price during that time mentioned, the almost certainty that it had to be a Turbo-r game only as predicted. In contrast to the re-opening of Realms the sourcecode will most likely not be given or that he even wanted to do. If you take all that together ,it is better to start from scratch with new titles
I think it's not smart to discard a project just because it's programmed in C. With a GFX9000, even without using the turboR and little inline assembly, wonderful results can be accomplished. Furthermore, there already is an extremely cool X-Tazy introdemo, idea and storyline. I don't know about the rest, but I think there will be a fair amount of code and graphics as well. I see no reasons not to encourage people to finish this project.
Although I give it 0.1% chance. I will invite you snout to ask your friends from the Guru-logic team to do it. If the game of Gurulogic is finished then.
If you want to give me that guarantee( since Bifi is also enthousiastic).
I will ask Michi for the last time ( pff after 1000 times) and if it is no accept it for once and for all.
It's not a single problem of single turbo-r single gfx or so,but the combination of all the factors.
And the main factor is if someone wants to share his code or not.
In case of e.g Realms Peter wants. Since I know Michi from the beginning and talked so many times after Tilburg fairs about xtazy and Wios as well Peter Burkhard did on meetings of the funclub I am sure for 99,9% that he will not.
And if I am wrong, what could be for that 0.1% . It is still a question who wants and can work as a team. Since I see an indirectly no from Bifi's side( not meant personal Bifi, you do enough !). It is thus very difficult to find people then except for manuel.
You see my call for help as regards Realms are promising thanks to Sonic and a few spanish guys !
I don't see why X-Tazy 'has' to be continued. I'd just as much like to see another game started from scratch (and while you're at it, in ASM and working on my 7MHz Z80). And if an intro demo was all that was ever finished... Then it seems there's still a very long way to go. Sure, restarting a game which is 90% completed (say, Micro Mirror Men) would be worth the effort, but...
*IF* X-Tazy is going to be finished, Mi-Chi has to do it by himself (or with some others if he wants and can find them). But to let someone else continue and finish the effort... Nah... I am certainly not going to volunteer for it, and I doubt anyone else will. It would be cool if Mi-Chi picked up his MSX activities again, but if it is about someone else I could care less if it were X-Tazy or just something new. As long as it's cool .
That's exactly the words I wanted to use , but that was from my side obvious I believe. I already said start from scratch cause its wasting energy to find help for one who even donot want help.
At my study we had a teacher (who gave c++ and DSP) who came up with an anectode: he was making soup.. but it didn't taste well.. he added some salt.. more ingredients, some water.. whatever he did.. it was never good soup (tm). So, eventually he flushed all the soup through the toilet and started over again.
Sometimes, no matter how much work you already spent on it, it's better to flush a whole project, cause adding ingredients won't help
Now, in the above anecdote: change the soup with 'xtazy' and change the ingredients with 'motivation', and there you'll have it Sad but true.. I've countless tunes that I've spent days on.. but if there's something 'not right' .. then I don't spend another minute on it, ever.
Another nice thing to notice is that small projects can be very nice and rewarding projects. You don't need a large-scale game to have a good game..
And if an intro demo was all that was ever finished... Then it seems there's still a very long way to go. Sure, restarting a game which is 90% completed (say, Micro Mirror Men) would be worth the effort, but...
The intro demo was all that was RELEASED. Haven't you seen the demonstration of the game play on the fairs?! I've seen two demos. One with a moveable plane and random bullets shooting at it, and I think (but not sure) another one with actual enemies 'n stuff...
Another important thing is the graphics. I don't know who made them, but they were great. Starting a new game from scratch means new graphics, and we all know there's a shortage of good graphic artists on MSX!
Certainly true, but at the same time you create another question.
Who was the graphic artist ,although perhaps not difficult to find.
The question remains if he wants to cooperate , otherwise you still have to find someone who wants to do it etc.
