From our own scene/history for me that would be

  • Unknown Reality by NOP
  • Metal Limit by IOD
  • Source of Power by ANMA
  • Dawn of Time by Station
  • Calculus by Compjoetania TNG
  • Sphere by Infinite

However I do like the artistic creativity of those demo party groups, who are not per se MSX groups quite a lot. It's just that imho they're all musically weak by only having PSG audio. Traditional MSX scene demos are often loads of scrollers and those demo party groups often are not.

The MSX-scene had an overreliance on scrolltexts, assuming people are going to sit 'n read all of that. Possibly also because few coders were capable of making multiple parts in which graphics/animations tell a story, instead, they just showed texts telling a story. The MSX-scene didn't quite have the "show, don't tell"-vibe.
Granted, MSX (or rather: the VDP) isn't quite the best demo-system; other systems were better equiped for that. So in a way you couldn't even blame the 90's crowd for making scroll 'n logo stuff.

Totally agree, the MSX demos are quite slow compared to other scenes. If we see one of our "holy grails" like Unknown Reality, it's really slow and boring to see (at least for me) with so many interruptions and so much text. A demo needs to be a non-stop effects show.

And for MSX1, from the same creators, MSX Unleashed (although i think BOLD indeed is better, but this one has some nice explanations at the end).

Wow, thanks for all the links! I've been watching a few. And I have to say: BOLD, io, Syntax Infinity and Baltak Rampage are amazing! I have no idea how some of the effects were managed on a plain MSX1 or MSX2!

@bore Syntax Infinity == 👌👌 Wink Also great PSG tunage by esau there (far, far, far from 'weak' (tsk..) Wink) (though pretty funny/interesting to see how people apparently feel divided about that @ Pouet's comment section Smile)

Definitely love Factor6/aKi's tune in io as well!

Yes, and maybe the Luna Clipper movie is the greatest MSX demo of all times. ;)
