Would anyone be offended or limited if new MSX software would be released on cd-r, instead of -hard to get- DD disks ?

A taped hole on a HD isn't that elegant..

As a result, the end-user has to put the software on either a DD of his/her own, or on a CF card/HD.

btw, some ppz have cd-players on their msx tho Smile

Some people have indeed a cd-player
I had, not anymore....
They're not water resistant, Crying
And it also requires special software...
And I've searched several pages, but I couldn't find it.

You could also include the Software as Musik Track on the CD so everybody can use it with a Cable to his MSX without buying special Hardware Big smile

The CD-Audio offers opportunity for a very cool game soundtrack Smile. Although it has its limits aswell, ofcourse. It's been an idea of mine before, to create several versions of a game, amongst others a CD-ROM version with CD-Audio next to the Moonsound tracks ^_^.

Anyways, I do have an IDE CD-ROM drive, and although it would be somewhat of a bother to have to set it up and all, I can do it. However, if you ask me, it's better to release it on disks, compressed if you must (so that I have to 'install' it on HD first). There are more people with a HD than with CD-ROM drives.

Hey, what about releasing it on CompactFlash! *grin*... Well, if you could find a cheap batch of 8MB carts which have no problems working with the Sunrise interface... It's a nice idea. Smile

It's not about the size! Even for a game of exactly 720k I wonder how many ppz would have difficulties with CD'r as media.

DD are hard to come by, and taped HD disks are ugly. CD's are cheap, and many modern notebooks have a built-in cd writer anyway.. handy for a fair. Modern notebooks don't all have a diskdrive!

So the issue here is not the size, but the idea that you need either an msx with a cd-rom or a pc to get the content to either your own DD disks or a CF card.

You could release on CD.. Although people with a CD-ROM on their MSX are a bit rare, they could transfer the files with a PC to CF and use that.
Or some other way...

But really, are DD disks that hard to come by? I had 50 new ones on sale last Bussum Smile (nobody bought any tho :/)

I think that will not loading very fast.

I thought about this only as a kind of BONUS Smile There should be enough space on a CD with a MSX game on it to include this Tongue

As long as it's high quality media. I don't have a problem with CD's.
I personally would even prefer it.
But seeing how hard sometimes getting good quality cd-r media for a good price is I have my doubts.
So I don't want some fancy looking disc's that fails after 3 years.

About DD disks there even harder to get these days.

Verbatim(Mitsubishi ) still has DD disks in ther product range and I know some stores which would sell them to me if I ordered enough that is however most stores aren't interrested.
