Nyan Cat for MSX

Fins have humor. You can tell by watching NYYRIKKI's Youtube clips, or countless of other non MSX related things. It's just too much to mention. But there's more than just Nyyrikki when it comes to Finnish MSX humor. Take for instace Dromedaar Vision. Once in a while they pop up with something hilarious for us to laugh at.

Have you ever seen the famous Nyan Cat video? Compare that video to this one. Finally we have our own MSX version of this... ehr... thing.
Dromedaar Vision gives you the opportunity to make a video of Nyan Cat and you decide the length of it. So go download the Passan Kiskat ZIP on their website. Kickstart your favorite emulator and start recording.

NO. BA-team
I refuse to use this soft on emulator. This has to be done in a real MSX! (not for long, tho... Running Naked in a Field of Flowers )

doh!!! my idea is been anticipated: this demo is too fast at 60Hz,
an audio improvement is possible with pcm-encoder using the rom format that is better! ;)

An example: nyan.rom

Yay.

If you'd like to see this running on actual hardware you should come to the Scenebooth at Assembly Summer 2012.
Just don't come NOW, since we're still preparing things (;

Nice job!

The official one can also be seen here.

But KdL is right: indeed it plays too fast on 60Hz machines.

An MSX-Music version would also be very welcome. ;)

great! can anybody let me know how to make it? some development settings like programming languages and screen modes? Running on MSX-DOS means it was built with Hitech-C?

janghang: It was cross-compiled using SDCC in Linux, the screen mode is screen 3. The animation was converted using a little Processing sketch that output asm data statements.

Thanks, Marq. Do you mean a Processing sketch is this => http://processing.org/? You took advantage of modern solutions to create this awesome demo! Very interesting and impressive!

Sorry for reviving a six year old thread, but I was wondering if Marq would be willing to share the C source code. I am trying to port Nyan Cat to the RC2014 homebrew computer (it's a very important application to have on any computer, you know). The RC2014 has add-in boards for a YM2149 and a TMS9918, but it doesn't have MSX-DOS running. Basically, Nyan needs to run bare-metal. I've disassembled the code but it seems very deeply tied to the MSX-DOS interrupt routines, and I haven't been able to untangle it yet. The compiler-generated machine code isn't exactly easy to read so I thought this would be easier if I had the C code. I've already had success running Bold on the RC2014, but the code for that was a lot more self-contained: https://hackaday.io/project/159057-rc9918/log/148149-msx-dem...

Nevermind, I extracted the music and pictures and rewrote the code from scratch in assembly: https://github.com/jblang/rc9918/blob/master/examples/nyan/n...
