Hey people,

I got an msx VG-8020 from a friend of mine for free.
I've been playing around with it for a little yesterday and I actually like it.

Now I got a question.
I found some utilities called Waver and MicroWaver which claim to convert .ROM files into wav for recording them to tape or playing them over soundcard so I can play it on a real MSX.
I've played around with them for a little but I really can't seem to get any of the .ROM files converted the right way.

I've converted .cas files and got them working so I know the MSX is working right.

Can anyone help me getting a working .CAS or .WAV which will let me play the Goonies, Antartic Adventures and Yie-Ar Kung Fu?

Also gonna check to se what can be done, programming things for this little machine Big smile

If you search the web there should be versions for disk that contain a .bas and two bin files instead of rom, on the real MSX the files can be copied from disk to cassette, maybe this can be done in an emulator (I don't use that so I don't know for sure) emulator may save the files in a cas image which can be transferred to wav.
If you like the MSX you could try to get the Sony HBD-50 diskdrive for it.... here in Norway you can find them (if you are lucky) in "loppemarkets" for next to nothing.

Gonna play around with them some more....
Could you kind of help me get on the road with this?

I have used both MicroWaver and waver but that could get me any working file.
I've just used msxr2b (commandline based), which left me with 2 .BIN files.

I've converted the .BIN files to wave (2400 Baud) with msxf2w and after that I've pasted them together and made .CAS file with wav2cas and tried it in bluemsx.

It finds the goonie file and after running, the screen goes and stays blue.

Same happens when I try to load it on my msx

OK, so your MSX is good, probably Smile

Instead of converting ROM to BIN, try to find a download with BIN files, which are working from floppy.

I remember my nephew (who also owned a MSX without diskdrive) used a (compact)discman to load games (.wav) from a burned cd. The (ready-to-use) wav. files he found somewhere on the net. Maybe this is an option for you?
A normal compact disc player will work too, just a matter of having the right audio cables.

It's not that I can't load games from my pc.
It's somewhere in the conversion of .ROM to .WAV or .CAS where it fails.

Converting .CAS to .WAV and then playing on my MSX is no problem.
Would anyone be willing to try the conversion of Goonies to working WAVE.

ROM to WAV converters doesn't work usually when the converted ROM has special check routines to avoid execution on RAM pages. If I'm not wrong, Konami used this protection scheme in a lot of titles...
