€80 for a joystick? Must be absolutely fantastic :)

Finally received some buttons for my artisanal hypershot-clone. Now I have a silly question about the port schematic:

Is this the view from the outside of the msx, or is from the inside?

It's the male connector on the MSX side.

Someone should be the forum guinea pig to confirm? That's a big expense for an unproven joystick, though I'll admit it looks well made.

That would still leave open two options, mirror images of each other. Did some checking, it's the view of the connector as seen from the outside of the system.

I recently acquired a mini-monster joystick kit:

https://monsterjoysticks.com/retro-gaming-joystick-kits/8-16...

They're very easy to assemble, and they work fine with msx's with their adapter (additional purchase). It also has a convenient switch that changes button two into "up" (I forget which game this was convenient with, but it was a real improvement in playability).

Downsides so far:

I'd have preferred a version which works non-adapted.

I am not a particular fan of the glossy aesthetic of the deluxe editions, and the matte sides of the panels scratch the moment you look at them funnily. That's especially pertinent when you flip the top panel to get the stick on the right-hand side.

May I suggest the awesome Wico Command controller?

Super solid and durable, easily serviceable, and can be rewired to 2-button on MSX with only a cable replacement. I find it very fit especially that MSX has so many space ship shmup games. Oh, and it has a switch that can be used to swap button assignment.

You should know the full story and I recommend to follow their Twitter account about the evolution of its manufacturing from the beginning:

https://www.msx.org/news/hardware/en/telemach-200-is-back

Among other models, the Telemach 200 joystick was manufactured and sold officially by the company Telemach S.A. (previously called Alfamatic) for many computers platforms, if I'm not wrong, at the beginning of the 90's.

The people behind this new project was able to find the original injection molds and is manufacturing this joystick again 30 years later with the same parts (joystick, buttons, switches, etc) from the same provider at that time, Industrias Lorenzo S.L.. Even the carton box design is the same! You have in your hands an exact replica of this robust joystick, only electronics changes because it's improved. Current Telemach 200 is also available for several platforms, PC included. If someone wants to know more details about Telemach company and its old products (Spanish language):

In few words, is a modern MSX game cartridge cheap? Well, for PlayStation 4 and similar game players clearly no, it's abusive, obscene... From the MSX game developers, physical cartridge manufacturers and end-user point of view, there are many things to take into account to properly judge their work and final price.
