The game was released for the Japanese Master System including a YM2413 / OPLL soundtrack which can be found here in VGM format. Would be really cool to play this game on MSX with FM, right?!

I imagine, the Master System being a Z80 machine as well, that much of this might not be that difficult even. Of course that is coming from someone with no coding skills on assembly / MSX...

Hey, I suddenly got this idea..

A while ago there was a discussion about the possibility to implement FM tunes for Herzog, but people were suspecting it would slow the game down quite a bit.. (it's slow already..)

(Good news btw: I see a X1turbo/YM2151 Herzog pack is available as well now since some months @ VGMRips..)

So the idea: hack a game so it sends commands over some port when the BGM changes. Connect this port to e.g. a Raspberry Pi with a receiving/control program (daemon) + VGMPlay + relevant packs installed... Have everything connected to a mixer, and enjoy some enhanced BGM Smile What say you (hackers & enthusiasts alike :)) ?

(Could be a nice PC emulator toy anyway btw..! Smile)

You can find the Ys II FM version:

Later I'll do the same with Ys III.. and maybe later Ys-I

Do I correctly understand that the music was rearranged, so the original OPLL music of the SMS wasn't used?

Ys II was never released for SMS, but versions for OPM and/or OPN exist (PC-8801 and X68000) so one could (should?) take some inspiration from those at least Wink. But for Ys I it makes sense to look at what is available on SMS.

Anyway, I did not know about that Ys II FM version, is it available for download somewhere (as IPS?).

Maybe when combined with a turbo patch? Possibly mandatory for FM to play (and revert to PSG if no turbo is available?)...

@sdsnatcher73: yes, I suppose it's feasible in combination with a turbo patch Smile

And: here.

I guess it shouldn't be too hard to remake those tunes. If there's a coder and some autumn/winter weather I wouldn't mind converting the needed tunes.
