I have SVI-738 and I'm hoping to replace it's 360kb single side disk drive with Gotek with Flasfloppy firmware.

I have understand that making it work with 720kb double sided diskdrives require replacing single rom?

Wich one? and where to get newer rom for it? I do have a eprommer, so I would just need a image of that rom.

Maybe you can found it here:
https://hansotten.file-hunter.com/special-msx-hardware/svi-7...

in the archive svi738msx2cl.zip (at "The international SVI.738 MSX-2 Roms (CUC version) with clockchip")

I did replaced the drive long ago with a regular 1.44 drive.
It was a straightforward work, as I did not replaced ROM chip nor cable.
I suggest you to try it before replacing Epeom chip.
Maybe there are different versions of this machine with different ROMs on it, so maybe yours is different. Just try.

Just to make it clear, after replacing the drive with a 1.44MB PC drive, was it recognized as 720kB on the SVI? Or did it operate as a 360kB drive?

Unless the ROM was also patched to support 720kB, all that it will do is 360kB. I don't know if such a patched ROM exists for the SVI-738. These SVI machines were however fairly popular in the Nordics and they had lots of upgrades for them, so I would not be surprised if a upgraded disk ROM exists.

SVI-738 Drive controller is the FDC1793. It seems compatible with the WD2793 used in several other MSXs. So I think you can use the Disk-ROM from MSXs that use the WD2793, but before buying a eprom progamer wait to be sure.

Look at this document. It is for converting 738 to MSX2. In there you see IC50 is mentioned as DISK ROM and it is replaced by a 27256 with MSX-2 Disk ROM (not sure what they meant exactly by that probably a Disk ROM from a Philips or Sony MSX-2 as that was most common around in those days)
