It comes from the MTX world; but anyway, here's an extremely interesting reading about what a Z80 can a squeeze from a TMS9918: http://www.nyangau.org/hextrain/hextrain.htm

Very nice! I wonder if it would be the same on 9938 vdp (if it uses some incompatible tricks, it might not)

That EXEVIDEO format seems pretty standard. Looks like a sprite compiler but applied to full screens and using the well-known delta encoding. All in all is a great example of how to join several great algorithms and create a gem Smile

I did see this few years ago and indeed it looks pretty awesome... How ever here is the spoiler: It is mostly just a video player... The gameplay is pretty close to Dragon's lair or similar... but the whole story Andy has written to bottom of the page is very interesting to read, I recommend.

Quite interesting, although, as NYYRIKKI mentioned, notice this is basically a video player. The game itself is a few hundred megabytes in size, as every single transition is stored as a video, and replayed by the game. It is an interesting first step though! Are there any polygonal 3d games in the MSX that get a decent frame rate by doing actual rendering? all the ones I remember are fairly slow!

Maybe, but I need first someone able to design a 3d scenario to be "filmed" for the background
