"Hail great adventurer! You have been chosen for the quest to recover the stolen «Ruby of Zakil»!"
"For years the ruby had been in the possession of your village, for years your village had prospered."
"That is until the GRUD came out of the forest and amid the chaos and terror, stole the ruby. It is our quest to recover it."

This is remake for MSX2 of the classic adventure Zakil Wood developed by NataliaPC and you can play freely here!

The game was done as a tutorial to learn the use of DAAD language in general and msx2daad engine specifically.

Where did you get all these images from? Self made or from another port?

Amazing work, congratulations ! Smile I hope more people use this tool to remake classic MSX1 adventures to MSX2 or even V9990.

I was wondering the same thing, how those images were created?

As I know there is only MSX1 version of this game, at least distributed in Europe...

The images are edited pictures to fit the different locations, and in SCREEN 8 format.
And sorry, no double buffer to shown them due to some DAAD limitations (at least right now).

Just a quick and FULL PLAYABLE demo of MSX2DAAD interpreter capabilities Big smile

Added support for SCREEN 10 and 12 to MSX2DAAD.
Also double buffer and palette management (based on Amiga/Atari ST support from the original DAAD).

Hybrid SCREEN 10 mode is specially interesting for DAAD games due the images can use YJK colors and texts the RGB palette.

Very very nice work Smile Smile
I was wondering and maybe I am asking a very stupid question: Can existing DAAD games now also be ported/converted using MSX2DAAD?

Of course!

There is a tool named undaad. With this tool you can decompile the original DDB DAAD binary to a source file (DSF).

Depending the DDB version you could find more or less issues decompiling it, but is a good point to start.

After that you can now add modifications, improvements, translations, and compile them back but using DRC compiler to be executed with MSX2DAAD, adding your own pictures.

You can read some more info at the wiki link above.

Thanks! I'l have a look at that this week :)
I see the current DAAD also supports MSX1 but I can't seem to find any MSX conversion. Even from a game like this: http://8bitag.com/games/snail-daad.html they didn't bother to do a MSX version and I think this is only a text adventure.

Maybe is unknowledge about MSX system by the authors.

The SCE source file itself is at that webpage, so it's very easy compile it with the classic DC compiler.

Just add to it the Maluva extension and you could have the game in a MSX-DOS disc.

The images could be added too if the author have the original ones and converted to SC2 using Maluva images tool.

The compiled DDB can be used too with MSX2DAAD if you compile it with -m0 parameter because the MSX2 interpreter uses the DDBs compiled for PC/MS-DOS target.

Zakil Wood MSX2 Remake updated to v1.3:

This updated contains improved menu with images and original music by @bitcaffe.

Also the MSX2DAAD engine have incorporated several Atari ST/Amiga/PC original DAAD graphical features like palette changes, double buffer, and more... that has been added to the game.

Enjoy it! Big smile
