It's been a very long since I last touched my MSX, but due to the overwhelming amount of stupid games nowadays I would love to play some old games again.
Considering the fact I'm a complete idiot when it comes to anything more difficult then typing a document in Word on the PC I would greatly appreciate it if someone over here could explain to me how to install those emulators. How to use them, where to get them, basically I hope someone can find the patience to explain this to me the way you would explain it to a 4-year old.
Preferably in Dutch, but English is fine as well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.... Smile

Before starting with an MSX emulator, you should ask yourself WHICH one to use. Please read this article to get some more info.....

After you made your choice for an emulator, we can give you a nice 'how to' for that specific emulator. It's hard to give general tips......Every emulator is different.

It's also very recommendable to read the 'readme.txt' in the ZIP-package. It often already provides lots of useful info.

Assuming you are using a Windows PC, I should give NLMSX a try. This emulator is easy to install and quite easy to use. All you need is some software, in either DSK (disk image) or ROM (cartridge image) format, which can be found on many places on the net.

I think I will use the NLMSX as Snout suggested. Could you please guide me through the installation process step by step. From downloading the emulator 'till whatever the final result may be.
Thanks for your time and hopefully patience.

I already have some games on disk, it's just that I can't figure out how to use an emulator.

NLMSX site:
http://nlmsx.generation-msx.nl/

NLMSX download section:
http://nlmsx.generation-msx.nl/main.php?url=/downloads

unzip it somewhere, and thoroughly read the user manual (nlmsx.chm) that comes with NLMSX.

I downloaded NLMSX, unzipped it, read the "manual" but all I get is a small black window with three buttons: "file", "configuration" and about NLMSX.
That's all... what do I do next? The manual isn't really helping me. Keep in mind that what might seem like an everyday thing to you is something completely new and uninterprettable to me.
I really want to get this thing going, so far you've been more helpfull then anyone else whom I asked. (Not once have I had a response to help me)
Thanks for your time

The manual is not a tutorial, but if you read it you should be able to understand NLMSX.

A black screen is not normal. Could you post about the black screen problem on the NLMSX forum ?

http://nlmsx.generation-msx.nl/forum/list.php?f=2

And if you do, could you also zip the LOG directory and attach it to a forum message over there ?

however, it takes a while before the emulator starts. If you have a 'slow' computer, just wait a second and see if the MSX logo appears.

I do have slow computer (PII), but nothing appeared after half an hour. Thanks for your time but I'm going to leave it at this since I haven't got a clue of what I'm doing or supposed to do.

Strange man Smile You get more response than you could have ever hoped for, you seem to be able to work with Windows so you're not that ignorant as you try to make us believe and still.....I have the feeling you're a bit irritated about the suggestions we're giving you....

I still hope you will get NLMSX to run properly. I can also suggest you to try and find an original MSX2. A PII indeed might be a bit too slow to run NLMSX at the correct speed. Original MSX-machines aren't that expensive nowadays and they're fairly easy to find. Just visit www.mcwf.msx2.com and leave an e-mail to Bas Kornalijnslijper. He can get you a nice MSX2......

Relax and be happy, my friend :P

I have a G4 here at work and I can't get it running on this machine.

I do get more response then I thought I would, it's just not helpfull to me. I definetly am annoyed but that has nothing to do with any of you, it has to do with the fact I can't do what I want to do 'cause I don't understand.

Yes, of course I know how to work with Windows. I've worked with computers the moment I got my first MSX1. I just never work with anything else then office nowadays. So what might seem as routine work to you, is Chinese to me Smile

I was hoping someone over here could help me. It starts with the unzipping, what do I unzip, where do I put it, why do I unzip it, what do I do after I unzip it. Believe me, it's frustrating when you don't have the know-how... how easy it might be in the end...
