It may not be known to you, but this whole event in Zandvoort sparked quite some national controversy over the past weeks, related to COVID regulations and musical artists not getting paid for services. This has cast a bit of a shadow over this 'F1 Spirit'. It's probably best to just insert the cartridge and be done with it.
Wolf you party pooper! It's a "storm in een glas water".
I don't usually watch the races but I always like to read the news about the exploits of Max Verstappen . I think it's very cool the F1 is back in Zandvoort and I'm looking forward to seeing the race!
Indeed... the "controversy" Wolf is talking about is quite limited to some environmental activists who were trying to get the race cancelled through lawsuits (Something they might succeed in in the future though).
And the artists not getting paid for their services? True... but with mutual agreement They were asked to play for free. Some did, some didn't, and some caused a "1-day controversy" on social media as they were frustrated/offended they were aked to play for free. And yes, they do have a point. But they also have a choice. Noone is making them do anything.
In reality... certainly not a "national controversy". A load minority at best. But (social) media has made sure that such a small minority can make a lot of noise these days.
Well, I did not know about that.
I do not understand why are they asking for free events, as organizations and teams do manage big amounts of money. What is wrong in spending some money and pay featured stars, such as singers, performers... ?
Anyone feel like putting the Zandvoort race in F1 Spirit to get the true feeling?
I was reminded of an MSX Basic listing called Zandvoort.

It’s a bit silly of them indeed to ask such a thing, but I reckon the thought behind it is that the event is struggling to financially break even because they can only admit 2/3rds of their capacity due to corona, so from their perspective maybe they thought it was okay to ask that. But it was a bit insensitive given the tough spot artists are in now.
From what I heard they did offer compensation in the form of tickets worth thousands of euros each though. Take it or leave it I would say, but it hit a sensitive spot with some artists. They are upset because festivals got cancelled this summer after they and the night clubs caused a huge spike in Corona infections, but the F1 can proceed because like soccer matches it is a “seated” event. It is really about the government’s Corona policies, not the F1 race.
Anyway, “storm in een glas water” in Dutch means much ado about nothing, I think with Corona some people can’t bear to watch people having fun and put a magnifying glass on everything that doesn’t go well, and the news loves to report about it. Take a short video at exactly the right moment when the organisation had a crowd management slip-up and it’s all over the news. Me, I’m just glad at least some great events like this one can proceed. It feels like we’re going back to normal, let’s hope we can leave all this Corona stuff behind us as soon as possible.

That would be pretty cool . Like the Stop the Express NS edition!
Do note that I don't visit races, festivals or concerts. So I couldn't care less about all this. Also I don't think everyone on this stamp we call NL cares about it. That's not what I meant with 'national'. But look, if at some place in the East of NL some local authorities plan making a bit of a highway, and some local environmentalists start yelling about a weird rare frog that's breeding there, then that's a local issue. Where I'm living I probably wouldn't even know about that issue taking place anyway. This race in Zandvoort did make national headlines though, and people all around the country are complaining about it. Not that they care so much about racing, but they do care about how different events receive different kinds of treatments.
In this case I'd side with bands/musicians that can't have their festivals and other stage performances because of this pandemic (or rather: the measurements following the pandemic). And even if they do get their stage, their audience is slimmed down to ensure the 1.5 meter requirements are met. Yes, of course they can decline the offer, no one's forcing them. The real problem here is the classic assumption that musicians want to play for free on high-profile projects/events. They're always at the bottom of the budget. Always when all the money's been divided already, they still need to hire the musicians. But alas, "they can perform for the exposure", right? Now, if there's some local charity project asking for a band to perform. Fine, there's probably no money to split anyway. But this racing organization is filthy rich. Hire five bands and pay them €1000 each. That's €5000 for music that day, the honest way. That's a droplet if you look at the income that's been generated there. It's a droplet for the rich organization. The racing track is owned by a cousin of our king, with an estimated personal wealth of around 80.000.000 euros. If I was at that position and had that money laying around, I'd hire the biggest musical acts I could find from my own pocket. But noooo... these musicians would actually get free tickets to go see the race. Like anyone cares.
There is also the case of the local environmentalist protests, that's a whole other cup o' tea I'm not into, so I won't comment on that.
But, on the upside: I still adore SD-Snatcher, Dragonslayer TLoH and Topple Zip!
* kind of sync with Grauw *
Topple zip is NOTHING compared to f-1 spirit
But, even as quite the f1 fan, this seems very unfair to other parties who can't hold an event.
...and a joke for keeping up regulations. 1.5m distance? Don't make me laugh.
Anyhow max starts first so who cares
There's a kind of people in Holland who are against anything someone else might like and will try everything to ruin it. The easiest step to take is claiming to be an environmental sjw and try and find an endangered species they never heard of. One weekend of racing in their eyes is worse than all the 24/7 industry surrounding it.
Their favorite drink is vinegar.
