Has this game ever been ported to msx?It seems strange to me that it was ported to zx spectrum that is much more inferior than our beloved msx.Probably this does not exist? However bubble bobble was ported to msx that's why i am asking about rainbow island.

If I'm not wrong, it was never ported to MSX. Keep in mind that the capabilities of a machine were never a reason to port a game to it, the main reason was (and still is) its potential market and so the Spectrum, being one of the weakest, has the widest software catalog of all micro computers :-(

Too bad. I think it's a fun game.

About 'missing' Taito games on MSX:

I wonder why there never was some port of New Zealand Story...
The arcade-version dates from '88, so there must have been a market for it, I guess?

Well i managed to get Bubble bobble original from ebay.Wasn't that made by taito? Why did ocean made rainbow islands?Shouldn't it say Taito?Well good news is that it is in excellent condition (bubble bobble rom),has the boxing in top condition, all the inlays, and even the registration card.It seems to be the japanese version.

Manuel i noticed that in the bubble bobble msx2 version generation-msx does not have a scan of the box (front and back) of the tms 02 version.Since my box is in top condition would you like me to scan it and send it to you? What is the resolution that i should scan it?

There is only one official version of Bubble Bobble for MSX, and that's the Taito TMS-02 MSX2 version.

Yes, good quality scans are most welcome! I usually scan at 150 dpi and then scale back to 100 dpi, to reduce aliasing artifacts. Higher resolutions are fine, just make sure it's at least 100dpi and that there's little or no aliasing.

Thanks!!

Well, at that time, Ocean ported a lot of (arcade) games to systems like MSX and ZX Spectrum, I guess.

It was called "licensing" Wink

...but sometimes "licensing" was just an excuse. For example, Ocean/Imagine Play the Game "programmed" the MSX version of Arkanoid, released in Europe in tape format.

Strangely enough, it was previously released as a cartridge in Japan, without mentioning Ocean's involvement. My guess: it was coded in Japan by TAITO itself (just like SPACE INVADERS, CHORO-Q and others) and then just "converted to tape format" by Ocean. Luckily enough, this way you could legally get an excellent game at a fair price! (price in Spain was set to 875 pesetas, that equals to 5.25 euro).

More gossip?

All I can say is that I know of several TAITO games that are being considered by different development groups as *candidates* for MSX(1) games. But I cannot add anything else to this undetailed statement Wink

Well, yes, just one more detail: I am not involved in any of them Sad

A remake of Rainbow Islands... sounds nice. When done on MSX2, this really could be something.
