true, MSX is MSX. PC=PC, SNES=SNES etc.
it's just too darn late for another MSX. I'm not even remotely interested in such.

I've got my PC for daily stuff and my MSX for hobby stuff. I love the fact that it's not as powerfull as the next machine.

BUT don't let that be a reason to stop the development of stuff (hardware) for MSX. ! Hannibal

i am interested in an msx running 20x times faster, i abandonned so many
project because i had not enough time optimize it until the very last cycle....
and i never use basic since it is too slow....

A Z80 at 20x speed is going to get bored waiting for the same slow VDP.. Tongue

I agree with dioniso and ro, MSX _is_ MSX as it is/was. But there are so many good systems ranging from Atari 2600 to PS3 so there is really no need for a new console in the Low to mid range of that spectrum. So e.g. for something SNES like, I prefer SNES.
However I really do like new extensions that makes it easier to run my old games or develop new games for the old computer, such as IDE, NoWind USB, MegaFlashRoms, etc. All those things are great but they really just make my MSXing more accessible and easier to use than it was 25 years ago.

I think that expand the MSX is not any attack to the standard.

For example: for some people here, a MSX 2 is "too modern" or even a FM PAC. For another people, it's normal to have a Moonsound, GX9000 and a big HD. I think it's a matter of taste. More variety, more MSX. Except GX9000 (it's great, but expensive and there is not many soft for it), I have a lot of know extensions for MSX: FM PAC, Music Module, Moonsound, 512 KB RAM, IDE, SCSI, MP3...etc... the problem is the lack of slots: everything should be integrated.

Now I only use the 1chipMSX (with last KdL update): I like the updates (VGA, 10 MHZ, Sound Output, for example) and the integrated peripherals (SD, 2MB RAM, SCC, FM PAC, etc...). I am not any purist. MSXing is not any ideology nor religion (seems that for somebody it is), it's a simple hobby, and one of the views of computing.

And I like the improvements, updates, etc... I think all of them are great... if they have support of the people. It's never too late.

yes i agree with spl,

I would also say that the msx standard from the begining was though to be
shared among many computer makers and was much more open than other
proprietary system.

So expandability and evolution are part of the 'genes' of the standard from
the begining, i would say.

Some people like this standard for being the platform where many legendary
games started but other people see also the system itself what makes so
original to others : the fact its specifications can be expanded.

See the PC standard it most powerfull stregth is that it is very open, any
computer maker have produced PC, and msx was it counter part in the
bit 8 bits world.

I also agree with spl. New extensions are more than welcome and some are more interesting to me than others. But unlike some, I don't believe in an MSX3 standard or some big collective effort to make one new platform that all new development will be based on and that everyone will use. The great thing with MSX _is_ that its a flexible standard that allows so many variations, but its also a small dilemma because its a bit hard to get enough interest for new features, such as GFX9000 to motivate people to spend time with them. And absolutly, as spl said, MSXing is not any ideology nor religion, its a hobby, but different people have different ideas what that hobby means for them. And I think people primarily makes extensions because they want the technical challenge. Trying to standardize around a new standard probably takes away a lot of the fun.

my words are to integrate every active msx user that have interest to go ahead with something that we share commonly. an organization for every type of developer to do the best in their specific area.
still, some of them is not solved:
where are the japanese users here? i really want to know their opinion. why the mrc still not have the japanese flag and posts of msx japanese developers? they can contribute a lot, because they have that type of organization already running for homebrew projects like the 68000.
ghost-reading the brazilian msx users comunity list, they still don't know the existance of this topic.
things need to change.

other thing to take on my words: why cartridges on ebay like metal gear 2 costs 200$ or more dollars and others are just 10$ or similar thing? is it because has some special hardware....or just because the game is too much good? please, think about it.
