I'm having trouble changing disks in SD Snatcher,
copied the three disks (sd1.dsk+sd2.dsk+sd3.dsk+sd.usr) into one sd.dsk file.
When prompted for the save disk after pressing F2, I tried pressing zero and the spacebar,
but nothing seems to happen?

In an earlier post I read about the 'select' key for changing disks.
Pressing 'select' makes my capslock blink, but again, pressing 0 doesn't work.

Am I following the right procedure here?

Don't include the user disk to the other dsk files if you want to use the user disk file by selecting 0. If you include it the user disk is the last disk. So it should be 4 and not 0

I'm new to runit (and MSX in general)... I tried to run runit (runit is in the path). I have dsk-files on sd interface's sd card (fat16) as drive d: I cd to the directory where the dsk files are and type the following: runit goonies.dsk I get the neardark logo, but then nothing. Tried with dozen of dsk-files, same result.

There must be something very simple, but I cannot find it. Readme does not say anything about any possible hotkeys...

Please, all help highly appreciated Smile

Runit does not work with all disk images. Only sector based software will work. Game cartridge rips on floppy usually are not sector based. Those floppies can usually be extracted and run directly.

Ok, thanks Smile Does this mean that approximately all games originally released on a floppy do work with runit? I run the cartridges Mega Flash Rom SCC+.

A lot of original software on disk are also not sector based so it depends. A lot of popular games are sector based luckily (eg Xak, SD snatcher). There is a small compatibility list on the Near Dark site for runit. Most disk games can be run with runit or extracted to your SD/cf card. There are games which use a combination of files and sector based data. Those games cannot be played by extracting the content or runit. If you have a Turbo-R you can try HDD-emu. If not, use putdisk.com to put the disk image on a real disk.

Actually the Xak series are not completely sector based they use a combination of files and sectors. Most of the sectorbased games will work though, some use a fuzzy copyprotection which is probably the reason they will not work (im planning on fixing this in the future when i have time to do some programming again, debugging gamecode is very timeconsuming).

Any game that uses .BAS files won't work, as Runit emulates a DOS1 environment, not a BASIC environment (I will see if it's possible to add this in the future).

Which version of Runit are you using?
Which games are you trying to start?

You can try and run the XAK series, SD snatcher, Aleste 2/3 or Dragonslayer 6 to see if Runit is working properly.
If those games work, it would mean that the diskimage you are trying to start is probably filebased or has a fuzzy copy protection. (you can check with winimage or another .DSK file tool for PC)

If it is a sectorbased game and you still can not use runit the last possible thing you can try is putting the diskimage on floppy and making the .DSK on MSX with readit.
For example Pleasure Hearts and Kyokugen need Readit as they use bad sectors for protection. Readit will save all info about bad sectors in the diskimage, which Runit uses to fool the gamecode that there is a bad sector. Readit is slow in reading the image so get yourself a coffee while using it Tongue
