OK, so it doesn't work on my wx, and on the st I get a white screen. I guess it's something to do with the cf and the files on it. I should dig out the zip drive and see if it can run from there...

used the same cf with ata-ide 512, I get the same result. so its not the sunrise ata prob. so the files are bad?

Yes there is. Some games need a patch. But rule one is: sector based games only.

You can also use SofaRunIt (which supports file-based games).
