With the AY-3-8910, the sound is often very close but the noise is different. With the SCC, the sound is less accurate but there are the 4 voices. However, games are slower in two cases.

gdx, can you test my conversions to see if you can notice any speed difference when comparing those to their original Coleco versions?

I still have around 50 pcb's for Franky (PCB rev. 2, never used). These became more or less obsolete when the PlaySoniq came out. However, since the Sega VDP has a SN psg onboard, maybe nice for testing? I have most of the parts to build 10 complete ones, have to check. I won't buy the Sega VDP, but have good source for ic's. BTW: Heitor, can't you test yourself with your own Franky?

Hi Sander, actually I'm not supporting the idea of creating a cart with an SN76489AN on it just to play Coleco Games on a MSX. In my opinion the differences can be handled with some ASM emulation routines. Just like I did with the Conversions.
I was never able to really use my Franky prototype, and I really regret accepting the offer to receive one. I always liked the idea of Franky when it came out and I was flattered to see that you got the idea after a post of mine (my idea was the other way around doe). But, I should have known that I would be short in time to work on something that still today only exists in HW.
I could quickly develop the Coleco conversions thanks to the modern and comfortable development tools: pasmo, Notepad++, BlueMSX, OpenMSX, Meisei and etc... Normally, testing the converted ROMS on real HW was only my last (and short) step. Developing for Franky proved to be a "infrastructure challenge" for me, ranging from space to set-up my TR (complaining wife) to creating the SCART adapter to something that I could have used here in South America...

I really fell bad for that, and, I'm ready to ship it back if you want, or, if you or someone else you know might be traveling to Brazil (Sao Paulo), I can give it back personally.

Best Regards, and, congratulations for the PlaySoniq.

*PS* Have you seen the guy who adapted IDE and Keyboard to an SMS? He was running SC-3000's basic on it...

I have not converted Tutankham so I can not compare but there are several games that I converted for AY-3-8910 or SCC without slowdown or very little. This is the case of Roc'n Rop, Donkey Kong Jr., Gyruss, Venture, Smurf, Tapper, Zaxxon, etc.
Contrariwise, Galaxian, Burger Time, Mr. Do!, and a few others games slowdowns more or less.

It's not expensive to add the SN76489AN in a cartridge and the Memory mapper that we do is supported by the MSX1 ! Even Colecovision emulators on PC have a poorer sound!

The cartridge will have also 2 small additional features. Smile

PlaySoniq is a powerfull cartridge but it is expensive and some MSX doesn't support it. The SN76489AN emulation is it better than the emulators on PC?

Hello,

I've made a compilation of the Muffie"s conversion...

Take a look here :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D01MQyFAZw
Sorry for TV flickering !!

I 've test the compilation on my test Board (MAB Flash / Repro Kit Board)
The ROM Selection Menu was made by Magoo (Thanks) it is very simple... Feel Free to make a more sexy Menu.

I will produce a cartridge batch with Muffie's Conversions.
- Tutankham, Mikie, Montezuma Revenge, PepperII, Jungle Hunt, 3 Dragons Story.
I'm working on the Case cover, and cartridge Sticker.

Amazing news!
Those conversions (as far as I know) work perfectly on any MSX machine with 64k RAM, including, if I remember correctly, the Toshiba HX-10.

It's really nice to, finally, see Tutankham released on cartridge.

Quote:

- 100% new music, composed by SMSPower-composer Jacko
- A new title screen, inspired by the first Konami games which were showing all options available to the player. This new screen features original graphics (used in other parts of the game) and Konami's MSX font.
- Scrolling "konami" logo at the beginning
- Cool Colors by SD Snatcher

Maybe Muffie can work on Gyruss now.
What's the difference from Coleco to the MSX version of it?

Indeed, for the cartridge collectors, it's very good news. Some cartridge producers have missed the good train in the past !!!

Tongue I have already ordered 3. Specially because of the "bonus". I think that will came up later.
*PS* Not an additional game, but...

Just for reference:

6) Mikie

They were improved versions of the originals. For example: Montezuma and Tutankham have new music.
You can check it for example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNMe7OWsGTY

All of the conversions support both keyboard and joystick and they can run on every 64k MSX. Even Sony HB-F500P. They all have improved pallete on msx2 or higher and frequency is fixed to match the original games.
