Maybe it isn't compatible with my Japanese MSX 2?

Strange, I was looking forward to using the new 1.3 bios too...

If anyones else has any ideas, please feel free to chip in

Hi.

I think the goal is to redirect the bios to the melodies to OPL3 or Moonsound.
You have a Moonsound or OPL3 done by yourself?

@Colemu

There are two jumpers on the board. Both must be set to short the 2-3 pins, otherwise the v1.3 BIOS will not work.

Supersoniqs must have did some minor mod to allow the board to contain both the v1.2 BIOS and the MusicBox software at the same time, as this configuration wasn't supported on the original upgrade board. Probably this mod limited the onboard work-RAM to 4KB and the BIOS got restricted to half of the 27C512. This mod will have to be reversed, as the MSX-Audio BIOS v1.3 requires 8KB of work-RAM and 64KB of ROM to work properly. (The v1.2 required 4KB of work-RAM and 256KB of ROM)

Extra tip: Buy another 27C512 for your tests/future upgrades, and keep your original EPROM on a safe place.

from the README file:

- Software compatibility with the MSX-Music BIOS. Yes, you read it right: all
games/tools that use the MSX-Music BIOS INIOPL/WRTOPL functions will work
on this BIOS, as the BIOS will use the built-in SoundChipFish library to
translate OPLL commands to OPLx commands on-the-fly!
This means the following MSX-Music games will work just fine on any device
containing the MSX-Audio BIOS v1.3, and will even be played in stereo on
OPL3/4 cartridges:
- Many ASCII games:
- Penguin Kun Wars 2
- Dante2
- Lubeck
- Sea Sardine
- Fleet Commander 2 (requires the patch to fix a race-condition that the
game had on its initialization routines)
- Gladius
- The recently released FireHawk-HDD.

---------

It seems that all games based on the Twinkle Star/Yoshida Konzern engine will run fine.
