when we will have a fully functional v9938/58 core?
9938/58 - January-February 2015.
Once the sound is fully sorted out, then I'll extend the existing VDP architecture to 9938/58. Quite likely the redesign of the VDP IP module will be required (can explain why). But the board is 100% operational (touching the wood).
The original plan was to implement several IP modules to address the signal integrity problems at the board level. The current status for the board debug is:
- HDMI interfaces (done);
- SDRAM (done);
- MSX slot interface (done);
- Audio AC97 codec (done);
- TOSLINK (under debugging now);
- SPI flash (done);
- USB bridge (partially done);
- RTC (not started);
- SD card I/F (not started);
- PS/2 multipurpose I/F (low risk, nothing to test on the board level);
- FPGA power & clock distribution system (done);
Now I can say that everything works as planned and the board is rock stable and the work from mid April 2014 till now mainly addresses the FPGA design.
ok I'll take 2 of them!
know what the final price ?
know what the final price ?
Hello, a few replies before it was 110 Euro per unit in the 50 units batch. I'm not yet ready to release it in masses. I've got to achieve the v9938/58 compatibility yet. The card PCB possibly will be re-designed to fit the existing "large" cartridge plastics (mechanical aspects to be addressed later on).
I understand then that the design has not yet been completed , I would love to encourage you to do and enjoy cocluyera to compar power is a great project very interesting for all
And here is the first audio demo. It gives a good idea about the "character" and sound "color" of the implemented SSG/SCC/PPI.

Also on the board startup the short preprogrammed 16 bit sample is automatically played to quickly check the memory and clock subsystems (very handy).
Sounds great!

Good to see it’s working! But it doesn’t sound quite right yet... the real SCC sounds much warmer.
oh, there we have the warmer argument again...
