Greetings to all!
I've recently started to use openMSX and found it extremely interesting.
I tried running ROM files using "> carta FILE.rom", for example, and it worked as long as the FILE.rom is in the same directory.

I have an old openMSX version 0.8.1, which is present only as an executable file on my HDD. I can't figure out the directory structure! (I need the directory structure to set the machines and save .WAV music files, etc.)
I don't know how/where to find the extensions and the machines, nor where to put my ROMs as default sub-directory (btw, the new version simply craches and never runs on my machine --but this is another issue: I've MAC OS X version 10.6.8 on a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB RAM)

any ideas? any questions (so that I can elaborate more on my situation)?
Thanks!

Special thanks to Manuel Bilderbeek for his helpful hints (they really saved some time) and for directing me to post here. :murdock:

Some hints:
- The new version 0.10. requires Mac OS X 10.7 or higher.
- SystemROMs can be put in your home directory ~/.openMSX/share (OS X is a UNIX, so use the UNIX instructions in the manual: http://openmsx.sourceforge.net/manual/setup.html#romlocation ).
- carta and most other commands accepting file names also supports tab completion in paths. Try cart /some/path/[TAB]
- if you use TAB completion for the machine or ext command you find out which extensions/machines you can use

Thanks again, Manuel! Murdoch
It seems I need now to check how things can work using "terminal" (the command line interpreter Smile )

You can do all control from the openMSX console (Cmd-L) and with more recent versions there's also a good OSD menu (Cmd+O). See http://openmsx.sourceforge.net//manual/user.html#keymapping

Solved with the menu, I guess?

Anyway, please do try to use the most recent version for your OS (0.9.1) or consider upgrading to a newer OS X.

Also, if you have any more questions, please post in this forum.

the menu Ctl+O works; the Ctrl+L was already working; the new version (0.9.1) works; and I knew also how to deal with the commands Smile
