GR8NET loads BASIC file and ROM image from SD-card
Watch my other videos to find out what GR8NET can do :)

Cool, this FAT32 implementation is written in Basic?

shame it is not available pre-assembled. My soldering isn't as good as it used to be Sad

Nice Movie!! Hope that someday a diskrom will be created for MSX-DOS for the SD card!
Cool that you created all the support for msx basic!! The device looks very nice !! Looking forward!!

What about mounting a disk image which is remote? Or is this a bit too far-fetched?

I think it wouldn't be a problem to write a disc rom for the GR8NET. Accessing the SD card seems to be even more simple compared to all other existing MSX interfaces. There are several people who managed to write disc Roms for new mass storage MSX hardware, is someone still active and willing to write a rom for the GR8NET?

I just finished the SymbOS network driver today, I hope it will run on the real hardware, let's see Smile

@Manuel - the problem is that network protocol is sequential. To implement disk image for random read image needs to be sliced into 512-byte sectors. Or we need to use advanced NAS protocols Smile

@Prodatron - you are right, we need to figure out how to "connect" GR8NET disk ROM with standard disk ROMs keeping standard for storage access. I must say I did not give it much thought, if you have ideas how it can be implemented please think about the implementation and share with us.
For example, I have some call entry points at the beginning of the ROM, I can shift them implementing standard disk I/O calls at addresses 4010 - 4022. But again - the GR8NET subsystem should be able to work with MSX-DOS 1 and 2, and with disk ROM engine working from different slot. Also, how to handle FAT32 if we can have only 16 bits for standard and 23 bits for extended disk access operation.

TBH I never had a deeper look into the structure of a Disc ROM for MSX-DOS. Maybe Konamiman or Armando Pérez Abad, the author of the PadialSD card driver, can say more.
As far as I understand a Disc ROM doesn't contain any file system specific stuff (like a FAT implementation), this is probably done on the DOS side. So when using MSX-DOS you won't be able to access a FAT32 partition, only FAT12 and if you have this extension FAT16 as well. Unfortunately I am not very experienced with the normal MSX operating system.

I think all that is needed is to make a Nextor device driver.
