Has anyone tried to convert the .wav to .cas with CAS Tools? I can't make it work, the files come out all wrong. http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~vincentd/index.htm
Yes. Used Castools and SofaCAS. Tried from the original recording (which was too low quality) and the latest version but cas2wav just doesn't want to convert it properly, even after editing the wavs to try optimise them.
Converted them to mono, normalized the wave-form in Audacity. Trying to load them from my smartphone as .wav-files on a real MSX. None of the two files load completely. During load, around 5-7 minutes in, the loading just stops.
So no luck loading it either?

Not from the original. The latest version however I can get working as a wav but still can't get it to convert to wav.
What is the 'latest version'? Louthrax's hacked stuff?
With my processed wav-files from the original source (montagut's raw files) I get the reply: "Found: Laser". It always stops around 5 minutes in the load though.
With Louthrax's wav-files, and even .tzx, I never get the "Found: Laser".

I'm using my Arduitape project to play back Louthtrax's hacked wavs and they work fine on my HX-10 (once I change the sample rate to something the Arduitape will play that is). The original I get the Found: LASER after applying various filters etc but that's it.
The sound quality of the files supplied by montagut are just too low a quality to get anything useful from them.

Those .WAV files can't be converted to .CAS by any way. .CAS format is only supporting "MSX-style" data, and Laser Squad is using Spectrum encoding. That's why you have some .TZX files in the .ZIP I provide.
Making a .CAS version of the game implies rewriting the binary loader.
I realized i converted the MSX loader part with "short" headers and silences. This is working on my test configuration here, but might not on other MSX machines / audio setup. I'll update the ZIP.
Another note: except for the "extra levels", the .WAV are not "hacked", just restored.
Updated the download with correct length headers & silences.
Read "Instructions.txt" to have details.
Everything should work fine, including the expansion pack levels. Let me know if you find bugs.
The only identified problem I've found is the following :
- Load level "The stardrive" (as described in "Instructions.txt").
- Cancel the game and load another level.
-> Players can now walk through walls and obstacles !
Note that the Spectrum version has the exact same problem.
