How FMPAC saves data by default? Is it in eeprom? Since battery is not required.

The normal FMPAC cartridge has a battery backuped SRAM chip. We emulate this functionality. But by default we don't install a battery into Carnivore2.

Alexey: Do you also emulate the enable switch that the original FM-PAC has?

(To prevent two sounding when there is internal MSX-MUSIC?)

To my best knowledge if you have an fmpac cartridge with external bios inserted, the internal fmpac should disable itself, this functionality is present in the internal fmpac bios. We are using the external fmpac bios in the cartridge, so the sound should be coming from the Carnivore2 and not from internal fmpac. However I didn't test this functionality myself.

Some devices do this, but for MSX-MUSIC it’s the other way around. This is described in the detection algorithm specified in the MSX Datapack (section 3.1.4 note 2). I suppose ideally the external one would only disable the output to the MSX slot and not to the jack.

Note that most FM-PAC clones do not have this function, but for stand-alone devices you always have the option to simply not plug it in, so it’s a reasonable cost-saving choice. For a device which integrates multiple functions however, I think it would be good to have it implemented. Two layered FM-PACs (esp. with slightly different FPGA implementation) would sound weird.

Well, I have a built-in fmpac (light version with 16kb bios) in my Yamaha. When I use the Carnivore cartridge there's no dual fmpac sound. The sound seems to be coming from the cartridge. However to be sure I need to remove the audio wire from the internal fmpac. But no time for this at the moment...

Hello Alexey:

I updated Carnivore 2 with the latest version of BOOTCMFC.BIN launched on September 16th. After updating shows a message that it has been correctly loaded.

When turning on the MSX, the boot menu has the option to enter the volume adjustment control with the V key.
The problem is that even though I try to modify the cursor keys, the bar does not changue from the volume values, and the FM PAC continues to play at a very low volume. This has happened to me with the 2 different published versions of BOOTCMFC.BIN.

I don´t know why it does not work with changing values. I have the Carnivore 2 supplied by 8bits4ever bought in the month of July. I only modified it to solder in the board the jack of 3,5" of audio output, that gives the audio output correctly in SCC and in FM, but with the volume of FM very low respect to PSG of the MSX.

Do I have to update another more files than BOOTCMFC.BIN?

On the question of the dual adapter micro SD cards, I bought an adapter like the one in the forum red coloured and simply doesn´t detect any SD card in any of the 2 sockets. I think this adapter is not compatible for use with Sunrise ATA IDE, Fun-Rice or Carnivore 2 cartridges

Thank you!

You have to update both firmware and boot block, otherwise volume control won't work. Also 8bits4ever were not installing the small optional EEPROM on earlier boards as far as I know. The future boards will have that chip.

You can solder that small chip yourself - it's just 8 pins to solder. You can update the firmware using the USB Blaster 2 programmer. The instructions are in the readme file.

You can send us the cartridge back for a firmware update if you like. We can also solder the 93C46 EEPROM free of charge. Just contact us by email if you are interested.

Hello Alexey:

Thank you for your reply. I bought a USB Blaster to update the firmware correctly. In a few days I can have Carnivore 2 updated. Thank you very much for your advice!

Hello 8bits4ever:

Thank you for your reply: I bought a USB Blaster that I will receive in the next few days in order to perform the Firmware update correctly, and in case it is necessary to update more times in the life of Carnivore 2.

Regarding EEPROM 93C46, in my Carnivore PCB this EEPROM is not present, although it does have the hole to weld this EEPROM 93C46. Please, I will ask you to send me this small EEPROM and I will weld it on my Carnivore 2 PCB.

I sent you a private message.

Thanks for your attention!
