This style of 'thinking' is the main reason we haven't good amateur games, specially those games trying to emulate the Amiga or SNES with lots of unuseful stuff and horrible playability and gameplay.

Ok, let's continue making games 'in the practical way', guys.... The next MSXDev is yours for sure.

I'll continue playing classic games (^_^)We have plenty of good amateur games, among the best are Akin and Coredump, both made 'as we go', by the way. Coredump didn't even have a script until half of the game was written. Not even the main sprite had been designed! It's a good way to design, unless you happen to work for Konami and are paid by the hour. Most of us don't work for Konami tho...

I don't like the term "amateur", because it has some negative meaning. It sounds like "it is not that bad if you consider that it is an amateur project". In a non-commercial community, like MSX is nowadays (for most of us Wink ) I think that we should use the term "homebrew", "hobbyst", etc. Amateur is not the right tag - several groups have produced real jewels!

We are very close to insults
This topic should end here...

The discussion can continue with some respect for everybody's ideas.

The goal of this thread is not to prove that a specific way of developping a game is better than another one or that classic games are better than new games.

The utility of this thread is mainly to give some indications to the MSXdev' team for the future 2007 edition. More opinions are welcome if they contain positive suggestions or thinking elements.

what about a contest for turbo-R games?

Nooooo, no way, I want to keep my TR as an elite-only machine with so few games that I can count it with the fingers of one hand... Smile

How about two contest... one start every year, for let's say for small games, one every two years for a big (megarom) game?

JJlopez - although Wolf himself thinks you're not out of line, we received several mod requests of people who think you are. Please, try and choose your words more carefully. There are friendlier ways of voicing your opinion. Thanks in advance!

Ok, boss.

But my question is... You apply this rules with all people? Wink

If you read all messages, first "ironic" comment was written by Wolf.

Textual words:

"Then go ahead, join MSXdev'06 with the best entry "

In ALL of my before messages only I comment that for make good game, you can use only 16k of Ram. If you need more ram, your code are bad, if you compare with the classic games. = you are bad coder.

I understand, I am not stupid, I know that in *THIS* MSX Dev, Wolf game use ONLY 16K of Ram. But this is not the question. The "generic" question is use 32k of Ram for make code easy, or make best game.

Next messages, is true, I use ironic comments about God, superhero, and the superpowers of Wolf.

Insults are stupid, silly, mother fucker, etc... etc ...

Are there in my words insults?

Is very easy, to make enemies in mailing list, forums, etc ... if your comments are against the grain ...

Some messages are tolerated, others censurated ...

Summary: MRC is a private forum for some typus of MSX user. Not free forum. Not all words are admitted. Ok, no problem with this, but, please, you can indicate this in your forum rules.

If somebody, have any problem with me, please, tell me, write me (jjlopezcalvo@yahoo.es) and I'm sure that the problems have a solution with respect.

@JJ: You're kind of missing the point. The problem is not the word 'fuck', 'shit', or 'commodore' being used. The problem is when people are no longer friendly to each other. You can be unfriendly in a variety of ways, which doesn't have to include the use of explicit words. Just try to get your point across in a friendly way, and you'll find you're able to speak are freely here as you would in real life. Because just like in real life, people don't get upset if you say 'fuck', they get upset if you're not nice...

JJLopez - yes, we do apply these rules with all people. There were enough people that found your irony to be insulting enough to send in a mod alert. We get these alerts very, very rarely so we often act upon them, like now. I'm sure that the same people would have sent in a mod alert on Wolf_ had they found his posts too offensive as well.

And indeed... you're not the first to conclude that the MRC is not a 'completely free forum'. We like to keep our atmosphere pleasant enough for everyone. I think this is expressed in our forum policies and website policies more than enough as it is right now.

But, back to the topic; although I doubt I'll ever do any MSX1 devving, I think it would probably be nice for most MSXdev participants to indeed have more RAM. While more ROM tends to ecourage larger projects, more RAM probably only makes things a little easier. Perhaps 1Mbit and 32kB RAM would be a realistic and 'easier' configuration for MSXdev'07. I like the idea of a turboR only MSXdev by the way, perhaps MRC can one day afford to organise such a contest. That kind of contest I would certainly participate in!
