What did you get disappointed about?

A lot of stuff not working correctly, basically all seems to be in very beta stage. For example MSX Turbo R still not working correctly (performance issues), even if it's sold as MSX Turbo R compatible machine.

You are right, there should be more comunications in english to be aligned with the progress.

Well, yes, it don't have that MSX feeling at this point. I'm sure this will grow to the projct it is announced - but it is not right now.
I will not complain. They did a great job and they do so at the moment, this is so much work, in special now, when the manufacturer have to produce such an big amount of machines and care for the customers and doing updates.
I will give this project some tome and will have a second look in a few month to make my opinion about the MSXVR.
It will be great to receive a ready-to-run-MSX machine, where I put in my FMPac and R-Type cartridge to get the easy-to-use feeling I'm used to. But this will be alot of work to do until.
At this point now, this is no machine for me to use. But this is my personal thing, not more.

Out of curiosity, how "customizable" is the MSXVR? For example, if I wanted to tinker with it and keep the hardware, but just install my own Linux distribution on it, and run OpenMSX, is that doable? or would a regular Linux distribution now see the cartridge slots on the hardware, etc.? (I am not planning on doing it once I get mine, but just wondering about how much flexibility does it give to poeple that want to push the software side Smile )

MSXVR is a RPI3 with extra hardware board connected to GPIO running a custom OS and the emulator recognizes this extra hardware. Of course you can install any RPi3 compatible OS like RaspberryPi OS, but to recognize the cartridge slots the emulator should implement it. There is some open solutions to add cartridge slots to RPi and emulators like BlueBerry and OpenMSX already support it:

I don't know the current status of this project and how compatible it is. Also I don't thinks that VR board is compatible with this one, so probably Openmsx running on VR would not recognize the cartridge slots, did anyone try to test?

Is MFR fully supported? Because I have some issues/problems using it on MSXVR;
The flash part works fine. But when I want to ommit the flash part (using ESC to go to Nextor) it goes to MSX BASIC and gives me a 'Diskoffline'.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Also got another issue/problem with the MSXVR and that is that the time is not correct.
Using a SET TIME in VR-DOS does not work.

Hi everyone,

So I got my MSXVR today ... After a few tests, I must say that it does look very promising, but also that it raises a *lot* of questions that the manual does not answer. To begin with, the MSXVR comes empty, that is there is no system roms in it, apart from some CBios versions. Although I understand the reasons, that is somewhat a pain in the back, because none of the config files (virtual machines) work, as they require the corresponding system roms.

From what I've seen, you can download the system roms needed for a specific configuration from the internet, directly from the VR console. But I was wondering if it was possible to transfer them directly from the collection that I already have from the other emulator. And that is where I'm a bit lost.

I have understood that the SD card contains the kernel for the MSXVR to be able to boot and function. But those kernel files are not visible under VR-DOS, they are hidden. I thought that it was there that you need to transfer the system roms, but no, that's not the case, as this SD card contains a lot of things, but not the config folders (as seen from a PC).

The config folders are in *another* hidden folder called $SYSTEM, which location is unknown from me.
Is it on the SD card but I did not see it ?
Or is it in another part of the MSXVR ?
And more importantly, how can I transfer manually those system roms ?

Thanks.

From VR-DOS type "pkg /update" or use the update icon on the screen. of course you need it to be connected to the internet, I bought mine used, so it came with a lot of stuff already on it, I put some DSK and ROM images on a USB stick, most things work very well.

I have not tried the SET TIME or SET DATE commands, however, the SET SCREEN command does not function Sad

- Connect Wifi
In VR-DOS :
- D:/pkg /install SYSTEM_VMACHINES_ROMS

Press Ok and files will be downloaded

@Ray2day
I have also tried the 2 commands (SET DATE and SET TIME), but they don't work for me

What is the "cartridge" option for, following the latest update? It seems to boot into ZX Spectrum, which I don't really need?

They don't seem to work in DOS either, but they appear to be set correctly, perhaps it picks it up on boot? Since the TIME and DATE commands don't work in DOS either
