Too bad that Funet.fi no longer hosts MSX files...

No one cares anyway, except that handful o' ppl who moan for the sake of moaning towards MRC and/or Bazix on a structural basis, we all know exactly who they are and where they are. There are currently worse things in the MSX world than this, do something useful with your time I'd say. I mean, how sad can one be to crap around about this subject all day long? Don't you have something better to do? I know I do. (and luckily another thousands o' MRC visitors do).

I mean, in orders of magnitude it's equal to go complaining at your local supermarket because the cheese you bought there has one hole too many. People seem to do count cheeseholes all day long it seems. Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

That's a lota bull and you know it. My comparisation was stretching it already, but this one is completely out of touch with reality. But then again, since you are part of one of the parties in this matter, your view is hardly objective.

So uhm, you want MRC to stop reporting news on BlueMSX? Fine, we'll solely report on OpenMSX then from now on.

dvik: sorry mate! Crying

Nop, just read what I have stated above:

Bazix (and MRC as well) should make very clear what their position is regarding warez/roms/etc and both handle accordingly. And only when it suits themselves...

And what's wrong with being clear about it and act accordingly?

Nothing, but anyway: I dunno about all those Bazix regulations myself obviously, I can only make guesses about it based on what seems logical. Why not send 'em an email and ask directly about it rather than to speculate about it or wait for an answer in a forum which is not from Bazix? (you can't expect S/B/R to answer these business of theirs just on any forum)

Most of them are not Bazix regulations, but it's simple called LAW. And it seems that some persons active in both Bazix/Woomb/MRC seem to "explain the law" differently, depending on which hat they are wearing. This causes some questions here and there, because that simply isn't right.

Bazix/Woomb/MRC/Snout/whoever doesn't have to explain anything to me. It's up to themselves to do so, or to decide not to do so, but it does mean that they will have to accept that people will talk about the different hats they are wearing and the different decisions they are talking accordingly.

Fact is that down to the letter of the law, no matter how you look at it, MRC is in violation once in a while. And "they" know that, but won't take action against that.

If they want to do it completely right, this is what they should do:

Bazix:
* Hunt down the sites that violate MSXA copyrights, and not make any "selection" regarding what the MSX community thinks, but make a selection on for example size, popularity, etc..
* Also take action against MRC about newspostings/links to warez/other violations

MRC:
* Stop newsfacts about Emulators with embedded roms
* Stop newsfacts about remakes of music/games, unless it's clear rights have been paid

Other option:
* MRC, continue as it was
* Bazix, stop your hunt on MSXBOX

BTW,
I prefer the second option. But my guess is that MSX-A won't allow them to do so.

I think you guys forget that MRC is just an website. If you dont like how things are here, just dont come here, or plain ignore it. You *can* live without MRC.

I'm not involved with neither Bazix/Woomb/MSX Ass./MRC - and I do understand why their position of taking down the link (note MSX MBOX is still available where it was, just the link on a popular site pointing to it was removed) - it's something that would hurt their business, while other emulators aren't - simply because of the fact that they dont come with pre-loaded games.

Remember that Bazix's target are people "lazy enough" to download an emulator and then look for the game and learn how to start it Smile

Try doing an MSX MBOX distro without games, to see what happens... if that link gets removed, then it's another can of worms... Smile2

In responce to tfh: The second option seems to have the preference, yeah. Most other solutions I could think of are either too far fetched or would probably have very ugly results (which may be the exact reason why things are currently going as they are).

If what I think is true (the similarities between MSXMBox and Woomb being a large reason), I can't really fault Bazix for going up a bit against MSXMBox. The same reason Slotman mentions.
However, I can symphatize what i want, tfh seems to be right here. Since it's usually the "legal/ethical ball" being played, it's not strange if people play this very same "legal/etchical ball" back.

@Slotman, don't get me wrong. I like the MRC a lot. I just don't like what Bazix has been doing here, it's just not ethical ;-)

AFAIK it's not illegal to link to warez, but it is illegal to have warez for download. AFAIK it's a decision of MRC (in their policy) to ban links to warez. If you (tfh) consider blueMSX warez, it would be a violation of MRC's own policy and not a violation of the law. Apparently the MRC policy enforcement is a bit selective then.

About when Bazix takes actions: it seems they take action to sites that *host* warez, not sites that link to warez. But it seems they have overlooked the MSX-MBox that was still on the net. I think the reasons why they take on MSX-MBox was explained already in a way older (and painful) thread: http://www.msx.org/forumtopic4355p15.html (Especially read the posts by Rikusu, e.g. the one on page 2 and 10.) In short: we've already been through this.

Ah well, who carez :P
