I frigging love Undeadline, and I also frigging love BEEP (probably my favorite shop in the entire world) -- and BEEP is very obsessive about quality -- so I fully expect this to be an excellent reprint, and... well, I can't say I was HAPPY to pay the price for it, but I did anyway! And I'm going to do it again with their second reprint game, which is on sale now (Shin Maou Golvellius!) so it can keep my boxed copy of MSX1 Golvellius company. Wink

I think it’s cool that they do it, and I like BEEP too, but the price (€ 123 ex. shipping) is not a fair one. There will be 10% cost and 90% profit. Even for a cartridge game with higher production cost it would be excessive. Good profit for them I guess, and it’s their right, but not a price made with the customer and community in mind. Half that would still be expensive but at least more reasonable. If this is setting the trend for any further reissues, then I’ve lost interest already.

Agreed. Even considering that this is going to be a small-scale release with high production costs and that it's going to be a very high-quality and polished product, it's way too expensive. We have many recent examples of amateur productions that also meet both criteria and cost less than half that.

I can't disagree. But I still feel like this is BEEP taking all the risk and standing to reap very little reward for it, so again, I don't mind paying the premium. And if it helps, it does seem that Shin Maou Golvellius is a BIT cheaper than Undeadline, surprisingly! Not much, mind you, but it's a good 2,000 yen less expensive -- so maybe they're working toward smaller prices in the future? Maybe? Hopefully? Wink

Maybe... Cool
Does the Undeadline reissue contain any interview with its creator Tokihiro Naito?
That might explain the 2000 yen difference LOL!
And with Golvellius you get 2 disks! For 2000 yen less! That's a bargain! Running Naked in a Field of Flowers

I've seen the X68000 Cotton selling for more than the original price. Price apparently includes collectors value built-in.

Personally, this is one of those weird trends in modern gaming that I'm not crazy about. Limited quantity everything, collector's edition reprints and everything made to be rare and a potential "investment opportunity". For the releases in the western world, half of them show up on eBay the next day for double the price.

They got me with Golvellius though. Fine, if you're going to do THAT game, then I'll bite. I like BEEP. I've bought X68000 RAM from them. This game cost about as much as the RAM though. At least it's going to a good place. Even if they reprint more of my favorite games though I'll probably stop myself from getting more. I like the finality of retro collecting. Once you're done, you're done.

Not just gaming. The current masters of it atm are probably FunkoPop with their limited edition figurines and (intentional?) misprints / colour differences.

Do you mean after Shin Golvellius, then Golvellius is next?

I know this isn't happening, but it would be nice in my opinion if some of the floppy disk games got a cartridge rerelease. I would buy more if that was the case. I'm always concerned about the longevity of floppies, and it's tougher to find an MSX with a working FDD. It would be great to have cartridge versions of games like Undeadline, Psycho World, Hydefos, Herzog, and so on.
