Today I had to upgrade the RAM of Panasonic FS-A1FM to 128kb. What could be easier, right? All sources that I've checked stated that I should have just added 2 DRAM chips and 2 caps on the motherboard. There was even a link to a Japanese article on the RAM upgrade from MSX Wiki. There was only one problem - it didn't work after adding the necessary components on the board. And it looks like the Japanese article even stated that it never worked for the author:

I wonder why no one else noticed that the upgrade didn't work. I was lucky to find a different article, also in Japanese, that described exactly the same problem that I had, but at least it offered the solution. In addition to installing the 2 chips, you need to also cut one jumper and short another. Only then you will make the computer recognize the additional 64kb of RAM:

I suggest to make changes to the RAM upgrade guides for FS-A1FM to include the info about jumpers.

Great find!

Probably the Fm is not the most popular MSX2+ out there. A pity because it's a stylish machine Smile

It's not a MSX2+, but a MSX2 with the Toshiba T9769 chip used on MSX2+ and Turbo R.

I stand corrected, I've mixed FM & FX models Tongue
