Turn on your MSX computer, it's time to smash some code for the 9th MSX-BASIC Contest edition. Hosted by MSXblog, this year's edition of the compo just took off and engages you to enter with pure MSX-BASIC lines of computer-code.
it can certainly be considered a tradition, the MSX-BASIC contest that started in 2008, loops through its 9th iteration this year. The first run was to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the MSX system and resulted in no less than 20 entries. A good start, you might say. The compo is an idea of José Andrés, better known as Konamito. With the MSX-BASIC contest, participants can submit their homebrew BASIC game and win some prizes.
The 9th edition's rules state that only MSX-BASIC version 1.0 can be used. Pure and simple. The only allowed exception to this is the use of MSX-BASIC-KUN with cartridge extension. The BASIC game program must work on at least one first-generation MSX with 64 KB of RAM. The exact rules can be found right here. There's a Spanish and English version of that, as the contest is international. Which means great fun, because anyone can join!
For guts and glory, for 8-bit pleasure, boot up your MSX-BASIC and get creative. You've got until February 2022. GO!
