-oh, wait another minute-
I forgot that this product already have a dual logic: Floppy and ROM emulation, right?
So, tell me if I'm wrong, it should only be a matter of converting ExecROM scc on different slot logic to your loader? And then, we could have (with no further mods) MG2 with SCC running on it (using an scc cart on 2nd slot)?
well it is possible to flash the mmc rom but you cannot do it from the same SD drive.
So you need another option or a second flash rom on the device.
or 2 SD cartridges works also
I wrote a set of tools that convert the ROM into set of BINs and then into WAV (via MicroWAVer) that you can use via CAS port to fill the flash on SD drive. It sure works, but of course this way is not very convenient.
How about auto-recovery logic that will check on boot the inserted SD card, and if it finds special file (or if some key/switch is on) loads the file or pre-defined sequence of sectors from the card ? This way you won't need additional flash chip.
Erikie, we can't let this post die...
Keep us informed of the changes.
What about cax suggestion for the auto-boot behavior?
I dont think autorecovery logic will work as best option as you need to 'recover' everytime you want to flash another game into the device first.
having 2 flashroms would be easier. Flashroms are not that expensive and adding logic for it would not be too hard.
my first concern is now to get the 'basic' version 2.2 up and running. Still doing some slight modifications before I order.
Keep you posted on the progress. Ordering of the PCBs will probably be beginning of next week
I will order the LCD panel together with a lot of stuff I need from them anyway and see how easy or difficult it would be to add such a display.
Can't be too hard. Would be nice to have such a display in my NMS-8250 where the drives were. As I have none in them anymore. Don't need any drives with the SD device
Today I sent in the order for the PCBs. With any luck I might even be able to shave off some money from the total costs per interface if there is enough interest and the gold fingers don't add up too much
Count me in for at least one (1) unit.
Here is an image of my prototype:
PCB is finally approved for production. Hopefully I get them within a couple of weeks now
