Hey there, I'm just curious if there is a mod available to add a cassette port to the turbo-r. I'm pretty sure that you can load tape files into RAM from disk, but I want to connect a real data recorder to it. My model is the FS-A1ST.

Under normal circumstances it's not possible.

I realize that, I'm looking for a hardware mod to do such a thing. If I had my turbo r, I would try and figure it out myself but Bas is still away and hasn't sent it to me yet, so I'm just asking if anyone has successfully modded an ST to allow connection to a data recorder. I'm very experienced with hardware hacking, so if it's a difficult mod that's not a problem.

Perhaps TRCAS by Martos is an option: http://www.msx.org/TRCAS-by-Martos.newspost2437.html
Also LOADCAS sounds interesting if you want to load .CAS files on a turbo R.

Maybe yould could make one as a cartridge extension...

As far as I know, the MSX Basic in the turboR doesn't even support cassette... so you also need software hacks.

Ok then, so a cart it is. Once my turbo-r arrives I'll see if I can put a cart together that includes a ROM with the basic extensions for cassette control as well as the interface, it shouldn't be much harder then an ADC and some support circuitry. We'll see when my turbo-r arrives

I remember on my Turbo-R any cassette comands came up with "Illegal function call". you would have to re-write the ROMS to start with. Why do you want to use a tape with a TurboR ? I wonder if there are any tape based games that have not been hacked to disk ?

I guess it's more like a proof of concept... it's feasible, but there's no (big) demand. Anyway I think it's a nice project.

It's not a matter of it being a necessity, I just think it might be a neat project, and if it works out, maybe people might be interested in it for their own reasons. I probably won't use it often, it just seems like an MSX should have a cassette port.
