Here is the USA, the MSX "two button" controller is very, very hard to come by - and very expensive to order from overseas (about 1/3 the price, or more, of the computer itself).

I have noticed that the games that only require one button work just fine with the standard "2600" controller (which are plentiful here in the USA).

Therefore, I am compiling a LIST of "one button" games for the MSX computer that are playable with the standard Atari 2600 joystick, so that MSX enthusiasts in the United States can know which games to buy and look out for without having to spend $40 for a controller.

Any help is appreciated. Please post the games here in a reply to this post, and I will create a database.

Thank you all.

you can always use a key of the keyboard , it is less convinient...
generally speaking i would say RPGs does not require 2 buttons , if i remember well : ys's , Dragon slayer 6.
I wonder if usas is played with only one button .
I would say as a first try:

ys 1,2,3
dragon slayer 6
usas
yie ar kunf fu II
knigntmare

Dragonslayer 6 does need a second button to cancel stuff like a spell or what not. AFAIK most Konami games from the MSX1 era can be played with just one button. F1 spirit and gradius being the obvious
Probably a great many other MSX 1 games can be played with just one button.

On MSX 2 it's harder.
Puyo Puyo, Tetris and Colums and other such games can also be played. Only you can't revolve the blobs/ blocks etc the other way around.

Perhaps this is a nice addition for the Generation MSX database?

And I did try the genesis controller on MSX once. Probably that one is plentiful in the States as well. Though for the life of me I can't remember if it only recognises 1 or two buttons.

i thought gradius needed one button for fire and a second for selecting the options : speed , .. , shield ..

I could say that most msx software uses just ONE button. Smile

Konamis and some other japanese cartridges use second button too.

Most (european) cassette software use just one button.

It is not too hard to use keyboard and joystick together. Thought you have to hold your finger on top of that key all the time if you want to press it on correct time. Wink

Why not buy an old sega game pad and convert it? I did the same and works great.
They are pretty cheap to buy also from the US and you can play all games on it.
It requires very little skill to do this Smile

I second that! This noob did the same.
All I needed was a new joy port connector and an soldering iron.

I will add to the list:

Tank Battalion - one button only
Flappy - one button (as far as I can tell..)
Pyramid Warm - one button (again, as far as I can tell)

All three of these, I could play using the Atari joystick.

msxmanmsx: there are plenty of controllers here in the Netherlands, which have 2 buttons. It shouldn't be that expensive to ship... Hmm, seems to be about 24.10 euros... not too cheap indeed.
