Tero Weckroth and Mika Savolainen have declared their Finnish MSX1 game Miner Machine freeware. The game, which was inspired by the classic Boulder Dash, was released in Finland in 1986.

Eduardo Mello of Opcode games has released a demo version of a Pac Man remake he is currently developing for MSX. The goal is to create a version of the game that comes as close as possible to the original Arcade version of the game, as released in 1980.

Andre Kuepfer sent us Clopy, a nice puzzle game for MSX turboR made in the 1990s by a group called Noname. The game, which was inspired by games like Kings Valley and Pixess has just been added to our ever growing freeware MSX downloads section.

Today, a first preview of EdiOS was released. EdiOS is a new GUI (graphical user interface) for MSX2 and higher. EdiOS is developed mainly in C, assembly is only used when speed is essential, or when a functionality that C can't offer by itself is needed.

ViewMSX, an MSX picture viewer for the Win32 platform, has just recieved another update. This time, the rendering engine was rewritten, which makes larger files display a lot faster, even on slower computers. The bitbuster decompression routines were also rewritten, making viewing large G9B files much faster.

Apart from this, two new formats are now supported in ViewMSX: SGX and VID files.

FAT16 driver 0.11

At the end of last year, Okei released a new version of her FAT16 driver for MSX-DOS2, fixing a bug in the directory display routines. The FAT16 driver can be used on IDE, SCSI and CompactFlash interfaces in order to be able to access FAT16 partitions on MSX.

FDISK version 3.10 for the Sunrise IDE interface has a bug which causes useful MSX-DOS2 commands like UNDEL not to work anymore. This is because of the incorrect Volume ID. BiFi has released a tool called Fixboot which patches the Volume ID to MSX-DOS2 standard without changing anything else to the boot sector.
